Been playing ETS2 a bit so thought I would try out the cruise control feature on my Sportage, which I've driven for nearly 2 years without touching it.

Yep, okay good and all but unlike America where it's really useful on long sections of quiet, wide straight road in all honesty a bit wasted on UK roads. We rarely have a stretch where you can keep a sustained speed without having to deal with an overtake, slow down to await a gap in the outside lane or some other obstacle. Also seems kind of wasted on manual transmission.

About the only upside I could see is an extra 1 or 2 MPG on the fuel economy vs. the right foot.

That's where radar adaptive cruise control comes in.
Set speed to 82 70mph and let the car speed up, slow down as necessary.

It's also amazeballs for average speed camera stretches of motorway / A road.

I cannot relate to this, i do approx 30k/annum and i would guess that over 90% of that mileage is done on cruise control. It is one of the most used and basic features which i would be a deal breaker on a car for me.

Yeah passive cruise control is largely a waste in this country I drive without 99% of the time. The speed and lane assist systems in my parent's VWs is nice though especially the way they adapt to the vehicle and road layout ahead.

I use passive cruise a lot on the motorway and in 30/40 limits. I thought VW lane assist just messed with the steering feel and it's been turned off for years.

I use my non adaptive cruise all the time on my commute - just tap it off quickly when the traffic ahead is slowing /someone wants in then back in once things are clear again, it's a total non issue at the times I travel at.

I use it a fair bit, even during my busy commute. You can guarantee the moment I switch off cruise control/speed limiter a mobile camera van will appear.

When I had my car I used non-adaptive cruise all the time, you just have to be very aware of whats around you and plan ahead with overtaking.

Average speed zone or in area of the motorway when its off-peak time it works wonder, longest I went on cruise control was about 15 miles of my commute. That 15 miles where all i need to do is watch the road and check mirrors.

I do roughly 25k miles a year, 80-90% of that is on cruise control, the whole reason i got rid of my old car was to get a newer car with cruise control.

Absolutely, and I do similar mileage and would estimate a similar portion of it is spent in CC at 70mph. I rarely have to change the speed, and if I do it's normally for just a few seconds to allow a faster car to pass me whilst I coast up behind a slightly slower car in front. People who think CC is a waste of time are setting the speed too high!

Agree entirely. Its a deal breaker for me. And even when it isn't, I'll generally look at retrofit options. I use it ALL the time.

Cruise is awesome. Adaptive cruise is a game changer. Could never go to a car without it again now. Especially cruise with auto stop, makes the start/stop traffic very bearable.

Can't say I agree, use it all the time! In fact nothing infuriates me more than people who clearly have cruise control (judging by age/model of car) but don't use it! Bloody hate it when you keep overtaking then getting overtaken by the same retard for miles, I know I'm going the same speed what the hell are you doing!?

This.
I do roughly 25k a year and the amount of morons with high end cars that don’t use it is astonishing

Does adaptive cruise work on hills? The number of times I am doing 70 on the flat, get over taken by someone going a bit faster, then we start going up a hill so I give it a bit more gas to maintain 70 only for the overtaking car to drop to 60 as they haven't given it a bit more gas...
