Cruise Control...

After driving to central Italy, in one go, between 2 drivers, but no cruise control, never again.
As others said, it's all about planning, reading the traffic.
Drove a golf which had the adaptive cruise control, and the (remote I must say) chance of the system suddenly brake the car because of a false reading, which happened just once, put me off. But 99,99% of the time was a pleasant experience.

Friend of mine has a Seat with the same system. 3 times in the last week it's performed an emergency stop with nothing in front.

Dealership is denying there's an issue.

The main problem with the VA, Seat, Skoda system is that due to the location of the sensor, now sorted on some models, it could be easily damaged, requiring expensive recalibration. And now some duches are stealing the whole module, as it's quite easy to remove.

average speed zones is where I'm happy to have it.. :D

I shall inform them. Thanks

I only got, and drove, a car with cruise control for the first time this year, it’s adaptive, and have only used it once so far on a long dual carriageway at around 0100. I found having my foot off the accelerator very strange. I tend to avoid motorways as much as possible but I can see how adaptive cruise control would be great on them.

I have normal cruise control on both our cars (and ones 27 years old, still works!) And have had adaptive in the past. I rarely use them but do sometimes on longer motorway drives when the traffic is quiet. Adaptive which I had on my old company car was ok but it was so heavily flawed (VW) that I didn't use it much.

Speed limiter on the other hand, that's useful for 50mph roadworks and overhead gantry cameras.

I did give it a try on one of our local A Roads yesterday but it is pointless, as you're either setting the speed too low in Sunday driver zone or constantly having to come off for sharp bends, overtaking cyclists or catching up to said Sunday drivers with *their* cruise set on 43mph! I will continue to try it out on the motorway though, if only for fuel economy - not that that's a huge issue on the Sportie anyway.

Adaptive cruise, wouldn't spec a car without it now. Had it in my Leon and now in the Ateca. The Ateca's is improved that it can stop and pull away with traffic with the dsg gearbox.

The one thing that bugged me was the undertake protection which played havoc in 50 zones and smart motorways. 10 minutes with the obdeleven and that feature is off.

I would not purchase a car without cruise. I use it constantly once out of town and really dont understand how people are finding it isnt helpful. The other function I've found myself becoming very fond of is the speed limiter, especially since speed limits these days are arbitrary rather than reflective of road types making it far harder to just 'know' you're doing the right speed.

wasn't it tesla's emergency system stopping for a foil based crisp bag, equally earlier thread about the mercedes system picking up something in a chicane type manouver...
can't but see an increase in legitimate damage claims from people going into the back of such cars

Can't say I agree, use it all the time! In fact nothing infuriates me more than people who clearly have cruise control (judging by age/model of car) but don't use it! Bloody hate it when you keep overtaking then getting overtaken by the same retard for miles, I know I'm going the same speed what the hell are you doing!?

There's no requirement to drive at the same speed all the time... it could be due to changing road conditions meaning they adjust their speed, maybe they were driving slower when you overtook them because they had to slow down for some other reason (merging traffic, whatever), maybe they just don't like the sensation of rolling resistance being nullified etc.

Cruise control gets used during quieter times, but rarely. I honestly prefer to use the speed limiter on the 407 most of the time! Surprisingly works really well, unlike some other cars I've driven with speed limiters.

Well I’ve been sat in thatsame traffic for miles and I haven’t changed speed once? There are 3+ lanes for a reason. If you have cruise why the hell wouldn’t you use it.

Does adaptive cruise work on hills? The number of times I am doing 70 on the flat, get over taken by someone going a bit faster, then we start going up a hill so I give it a bit more gas to maintain 70 only for the overtaking car to drop to 60 as they haven't given it a bit more gas...

Yep great on hills at increasing fuel bills.

had cruise in my last car, got adaptive in this one and I hate it, it's like having my mom driving. even w/ the range turned to minimum it's way, way too cautious.

As has been covered, driving with adaptive cruise makes things a fair bit more pleasant. I always liked the BMW cruise, which was responsive enough to be able to tweak the speed with the buttons quickly enough when reading the road on the motorway. The cruise on my F type is pretty laggy and nowhere near as good at that, which makes it a bit less usable in that aspect.

I used my Golf for commuting every day since March of last year and have never had an issue with it randomly slamming on the brakes.
It's slammed on the brakes because it's reacted too late or sometimes has a mind of its own when following in stop-go traffic, but I've never had an emergency stop with nothing in front.
How old is the SEAT?

Both adaptive cruise control and speed limiter are pretty damn good.

I do find it equally amusing as annoying when you spot those that don't have cruise control when you go up even the slightest of hills.

It's a late 68 plate (Got a great deal as it was a week from 19 plate.)
