Well I'm stunned.
When I saw the first trailer the other day, I thought MEH!
I just assumed it was a PC version, and to my eyes it didn't look any better than CryEngine 2, indeed, maybe worse, and with a far worse framerate.
Now when you consider that's running on current consoles, then I think it's amazing. The jungle scenes at the end are so obviously Crysis, it does look very similar to the PC version, from that video at least.
The awful framerates will have to be addressed of course, but it's not finished yet. I hope when they've finished optimizing it, and obviously have to cut back a bit to get the framerate up, it still looks very similar to that.
It's very exciting to see. I'm one of the few who loved Crysis (the first half anyway) and Crysis Warhead, and I never thought I'd see that level of graphics on a console. I may still not, after they've fixed the framerate, but for now, I'm stunned.
The thing with the PC version was, when you turn the Shaders below "high" the whole thing looked different, crap even... everything had a cartoony look to it, whereas as soon as the shaders touched high, everything changes and looks SO much better. So I assumed when they announced a console version, that it would look the same as medium at best. Certainly when I first got the Crysis demo, I still had a 7900GTO in my system, and medium was the best I could get, and still be playable. The 8800GT was fine though, played it through on high. So, the fact they're achieving that on the current gen of consoles, I feel should be commended.
Commended.... once the framerate is tripled

I loved Crysis. I loved the suit functions... creeping around cloaked etc... I loved the AI, and I loved the Physics especially. If they can retain all that in a 360/PS3 version, and keep it looking similar to that tech demo, then bring it on, and I'll be happy to buy Crysis for the PS3 as well!
Vin.
