Cry Engine 3 tech demo

It is taking something special to make me finish a game lately. I have even gone back to some older titles and re played them (3D makes it worth while IMO) but some of the later titles are just so repetetive. Maybe me but I need that wow factor again and hopefully GTA V and Crysis 3 can do that for me.

Crysis 3 is also on consoles. Crysis 2 was quite linear as a result,so I suspect Crysis 3 might be more of the same, but prettier, and with underground tunneling frogs.

Crysis 1 was pretty linear, in fairness.

And if you're watched the gameplay demo of Crysis 3, they've put a lot of emphasis on "multiple routes" to complete the games objectives. Ie, stealth, ranged, or gung-ho through the front door.

You can complain all you like about the games, but there's absolutely no doubt that the 3D engines crytek make are amazing.

Crysis 2 is probably the first game that genuinely looked like it was making proper use of my GTX680.

The problem is that consoles have to be also considered as the game is launching on the XBox 360 and PS3 too.

In Crysis 2 this is why the aliens are walkers as they can use the same AI models as human enemies.Crysis had a larger map,and the environment was less static. Also the multiple routes were true of Crysis too, although Warhead was the one which was a bit more linear. Crysis 2 also used very poor textures too, which were actually lower quality than Crysis(!) and it was mostly a static environment which is great for consoles.

Even the high resolution texture pack was crap.

This is why I am not holding my breath for Crysis 3,as Crytek made similar claims for Crysis 2. They are only good at hyping things nowadays it seems.

Also, any reasonably modern higher end card can run Crysis 2 under DX11 with playable framerates (not measurebating ones),fine at 1920X1080.

The third party packs such as the MaLDoHD and others show how much Crytek cared for PC owners TBH,as they show what the game should have looked like. For other games this does not matter so much, but Crytek stresses how good its games look. In fact the only really major advance in the unmodded game IMHO was the improved lighting, and maybe some of the tessellation effects(although the mods do improve on that).

Crysis was groundbraking in its graphics and modded Crysis still looks great today. Crysis 2 was just a mess for the PC and only people who really like Crysis would think otherwise. It was a fun enough game but it could have been much better IMHO.

This is why until Crysis 3 is released,I am not going to believe the Crytek hype machine. I want to see what the finished product is like for PC players, and none of that DX11 and high resolution textures "gift" crap they mentioned for PC owners of Crysis 2.

Well, your criticisms might be justified, but I still thought it was a great looking game, regardless. And I ended up enjoying it just as much as Crysis 1.

Textures did not bother me in the slightest, tbh.

I think basically it helps to be a bit of a realist. We know consoles are the favoured market. We know that the PC game won't cripple modern PC hardware anymore. Those days are gone (and we complained about them while we lived through them ;)

Like you said, at least Crytek can do a PC version which has playable framerates on most hardware. Rockstar could sure use a lesson in how to release a playable PC version of their games, after the debacle that was GTA4. So there are positives and I'm not going to jump on Crytek for not primarily focusing on the PC market.

In the end, they made a great game. For me the enjoyment is not as much about the textures, because how often do you want to press your face against the wall anyhow?

Poor textures are what are expected for console games not PC games pushing image quality, and I noticed how the textures did look poor at times. Also, remember this is a Crytek game where its all hype about graphics,so it was quite funny! :p

Moreover there are so many little things you find in Crysis if you go around the maps - there are even animated animals running around the map FFS!:p

I just found Crysis 2 more linear and more scripted. It was fun,but I found the original Crysis just more memorable.

Look at the modded versions which not only change textures, but have more detailed designs and things like altered tessellation. There is not much framerate drop, but they look great. Try running the game with them.

I still know I will buy the game eventually, since Crysis 3 is meant to answer some of the questions from the first game too IIRC.

Edit!!

I know we might complain if Crysis 3 does really push the graphical boundaries and hence our wallets, but does give us an excuse to buy a new graphics card!!:p OTH,when Crysis was released we had some of the best value cards of the last few years released, over the following year or so. Not sure if we will see those days again though, but we will wait and see.

how did you wangle that?

Would imagine it was when everything was going cheap via Indian Origin :D.

Yep, got loads of stuff from there-BF3 Premium~£11, ME3 Collectors edition ~£9:eek:, Fifa 13~£9-not that I'm going to play it much at all but I bought that to get Spore+Galactic Adventures for free:D, oh and Crysis 3.:D

Crysis2 3D awesome IMO :)

Played it with the AMD config hack provided by Crytek, but, don't bite me boys dare I say, it looks even better in Tridef.

<ducks undercover as tommy pulls his flak vest over his head!:D>

Nooooo. I hate when people tell me things like that because that means I have to go and buy it :(

If you don't have it and you can get it cheap for ~£5 somewhere, get Bulletstorm.

It is one of THE best titles in 3D imo, it is incredible-all because of the leash thingamyjig.

You pull the bad guys towards you from distance and they fly out the screen at you, then you can kick them into spikes etc, blood splats everywhere, get it!

Well you will go and spend 3 months of food money, I'm sure the missus loves you for that right now.:D

£7.49@Greenmangaming was the cheapest around, but it's usually on offer somewhere now and then for £5.

It's the best shooter I've played in 3D bar none. :D

If you aren't already in GMG, I think I can get you money off your first purchase if I refer you if that's any help, let me know.:)
