Crytek GmbH (“Crytek”) is excited to announce that they will introduce their latest all-in-one game development solution CryENGINE 3, at this year’s GDC Expo (March 25th – 27th) in San Francisco. CryENGINE 3 is the first development platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, DX9/DX10 that also is truly Next-Gen-Ready - with scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms. It provides the complete game engine to create AAA quality next generation games, and includes the CryENGINE 3 Sandbox level editor, a production-proven, 3rd generation “What you see is what you play” (WYSIWYP) - tool designed by and for professional developers. CryENGINE 3 comes with significant new features specifically designed for console, online, MMO and Next-Gen game development.

It is a joke it is for 3+ year old consoles:p But u never know crytek may have somthing in the bag for us PC lot.:):D

The article states its not due for another 2 to 3 years.

I know. It just seems a bit unnecessary at the moment. Cryengine 2 isn't lacking in any technology that is going to be useable in the next few years (especially in the case of the PS3 and the 360)

TBH, as depressing as it sounds, I doubt they will really give two-hoots about DX11(PC's) as they will see the money being made from the next gen of consoles, that's problably why they are developing it, as CryEngine2 is more than capable, but was designed with the PC in mind I would imagine so would be harder to use on consoles.
At the end of the day these companies are business thus money talks and you only have to speak to people (mates, work colleagues etc) to realise that most people don't even realise you can play videogames on PC anymore. Easy to understand when most shops dont even stock them anymore.

I don't get the point in this. Cryengine 2 already outdoes every other engine :/

Because it's not exactly the smartest idea to sit around and pat yourself on the back and not think about the future, as for supporting PS3 and 360 obviously it's a sign of how the engine will be able to scale, and what the PC version will be capable of will be what the next generation of consoles will be aiming for.

Crysis has sold around 2 million copies, or less, and when you consider all the money they'll have received from nVidia etc Not to mention the fact they've been buying studios pretty regularly if you think Crytek is going to abandon PC gaming, supporting the consoles is so they can sell more copies of their own games, and more importantly sell more licenses to 3rd parties.

Most gaming shops I've been into, and even the supermarkets, still stock all the latest PC games and there are still loads of places in the world where consoles just don't have the market share that the PC does.

Which countries does PC gaming outsell console gaming? I have no Knowledge in this field so forgive for my Naivety.
My views on PC gaming have been shaped by the things I see happening around me ie- no-one I know plays videogames on their PC but they ALL have consoles, none of the big supermarkets or 'media' outlets (HND etc)in local area sell pc games anymore whereas 18 months ago they did etc.

Caveat Yerli already made his thoughts on Pc gaming well known when he had a bitch fit about his game not selling as well as it should have done. Racked it upto Piracy like everyone else.

Don't be surprised if despite the extra processing power needed to make the CryEngine shine they'll be leaving us PC gamers high and dry in lieu of the console folk :(

It's a step down by the sounds of it, if its for the current gen consoles too.

CryEngine 2 is the best gaming engine ever made. The stuff it can do is absoloutely incredible - it just can't do it fast on most peoples hardware.

no dx11 support and focused on consoles? Well we got what we deserved, next time more of us need to buy their games. well, i doubt there will be an next time though. crysis was the last game of its kind...

Surely if 2 was so incredible then it would work well on the computers it was designed for? Maybe they need to look at their target audience again.

They should be designing for the current market not one that will catch up in a years time.
