CryEngine 3 Preview (360/PS3 comparison)

That guys needs to get his facts straight.

The consoles both have 512mb of RAM not 256mb. He is also describing the lack of RAM for why it looks "bad", not understanding that consoles don't have to load a monstrous OS like Vista...

All looks very good in slow left to right panning shots but let's see it in full running and gunning fire fight mode. :D

Also the barrel drawing in at the end from about 20 feet away? That will get sorted i'm sure. Right?........Right?

Not sure about that i think you still get some pop ups as it will be a trade off with detail and draw distance, but looking good so far but like it been said we need to wait until we see the finished game, after the mess of the pc version and what was shown before hand and what we got.
But glad it is coming to the consoles in some form.

You're both right and wrong at the same time though. The PS3 has 256mb of RAM and another 256mb of VRAM. So the video's absolutely right on that case. The 360 has 512mb overall, and it's shared between the GPU and the random access memory. It's still a prohibitively small amount of memory for a game like Crysis though, and I think that as well as the lowered graphics, the game will be a lot more linear compared to its PC counterpart. Farcry on the Xbox was the same.

Yeah, i know that! :p

I even put a comment in on that video with that exact spiel! :)

The PS3 can use some of the Cell cores for graphics processing also i thought? So kinda able to use the other 256mb from the CPU.

It goes to show what can be done when push comes to shove. If only they would make that effort optimising PC games. I know it's not that simple as we all have different hardware but it goes to show what can de done with a lower spec. If a PS3 can do that, imagine what my PC should be able to do? I don't doubt that my PC is more powerful than my PS3 but the difference is far less than I liked to think untill I bought a PS3 recently. The on-paper difference is far greater than the on-screen difference.

I won't be upgrading my PC untill there is a graphics card twice as powerful as my GTX 260 and for about £120-160 (which may be some time:p) and even then I would want to see at least 4-5 games that would actually use it.

Not sure why there are youtube screen shots in the OP as that's by far the worst way to compare the quality of the engine on the 2 systems. Codecs, conversion and compression make a bigger difference than the actual variances between the two when you do it like that.

If you follow what the video is actually about, they're saying that the crysis engine 3 on the consoles is equivalent to the crysis engine 2 on the PC with high quality geometry, low textures and medium every thing else.
