CryEngine 4 Demo

but it wont look that good when you play the game will it, it'll be dumbed right down, plus you need a good game.... because there's no point having all of this for a pile of junk like Crysis 4.

Not a fan of Crysis? I enjoyed 2 and 3, although they weren't as good as 1.

Even before Crysis 2 & 3 came out, there were Crytek engine demos that were amazing. You never saw anything near that in the actual games because they were kept down by console limitations and aiming at lower end PCs to get as big an audience as possible.

Even with the high resolution art assets you could get for the PC, the levels and effects themselves had already been designed with small draw distances and enclosed areas so as not to stress low end hardware.

So while games could look as fantastic as the engine demos, they rarely do because not many people could run them. This might change with next gen consoles finally getting half decent hardware, leading to better games that can be closer to best the engines can offer.

i'm not a fan of games that are sequels/ too similar to each other... not any more.

Crysis 2 to me looks no better than BL2 or Bioshock/FAR CRY 3....because if you look really closely at the textures in NY City then they look pretty poor.

my guess is, the final game is dumbed down compared to that video...by about 40%, because our PCs probably cant handle that level of quality yet, not when you add the AI etc, you'd be down to about 10 fps

i brought Crysis 2 late in the day, way after you guys had played it and i thought, ``the graphics dont look that good, this aint anywhere near as good as the guys on the forum said ``.

the best looking thing in Crysis 2 is the Black Kenworth tractor unit... bloody hell that looks good, but the rest.... no !

I think the GPGPU weather system will be one of the biggest gaming advances to date. Think about it.

You're in an FPS game and you need to get up somewhere by climbing a ledge but can't until the sun is out so the water can dry up on the surface.

That kind of interaction adds a new dimension to gameplay that's not yet been done and that's only one scenario.

Just Cause 2 was pretty damn impressive in that respect (I really enjoyed playing it as well). Not amazingly great graphics but the speed, quality and distance combined were at the right level.

Crysis 3... I didn't think was that good graphically... still a bit cartoony. Maybe I just need to turn up the rest of the settings!!

Will always enjoy decent eye candy though :-)

I showed my old dear the part at the end, the puddle drying up last night.

"Why did you just show me a sped up puddle evaporating?"
"That's a computer game engine"
""

Haha
