crysis and ut3 tanking?

I hate to get this blunt but "mate" the 7600GS is a piece of crap by today's standards, I'd use it in a HTPC and that's it. It was a cut down mid-range card even back in its day.

Honestly you're just expecting way too much. I'd either upgrade my graphics card, get a PS3, or just forget about playing the game at all since it bothers you that much.

And yet it plays just about every other game out there either very well or decently. Even the Crysis demo which I tried, ran reasonably well on it - certainly looking a hell of a lot better than UT3 did.

So wait, wait, wait...

No I have one person saying Crysis runs crap on old hardware and one saying it runs reasonably on old hardware. I sense a lot of truth-bending in this thread to be completely honest.

What is it folks, make up your minds.

Hehe well I only played it for a couple of minutes before getting bored of it. I think it probably ran at about 30fps on low details on my machine, I'm guessing.

You do realise me and divine` aren't actually the same person right?

*couldn't be bothered to read the 6 pages of squabbling*

Lol @ comparing Halo 3 sales to Crysis sales, i guess advertising has no effect on sales whatsoever eh :D.

If there was any justice Halo 3 would have gone straight to the bargain bin with the rest of the run of the mill sci fi shooters, absolute crap.

Hopefully future game developments wont be shaped by the current sales that we're supposedly seeing otherwise we'll be stuck with more generic uninnovative linear shooters like Halo, Call of Duty 2, erm 4? No, 2!? - whichever. "EA Sports presents Halo 2009: April Edition"! ;)

Crysis is superb, gameplay far surpasses that of any other FPS available on any platform at the moment (even if you dont take into account the stunning visuals), deserves the critical acclaim it has recieved in the reviews and i'm sure the sales will continue at a steady rate for at least 12 months - not sure if they will for UT3, can't see the appeall personally, nothing new in the game, played the demo for a couple of days but couldn't see any point in buying it - i have a feeling a lot of other gamers feel the same way about the franchise too.

My 2 cents. :)

Yay, my first thread necrophillia of the new year :D

LMAO.
Been playing catch up and just spent an entertaining half an hour reading this one...

Ulf has hit the nail on the head in most of his rebuttals, only one I would correct is this:
That's a moot point as Far Cry was the same and they didn't sell CryEngine to other developers.
Not such a moot point this time around.

Crytek are very much marketing the Engine around the industry, they have already announced a number of games and educational utilities that they have sold the licence to, and I am aware of a significant number of other "done deals" that are pending public announcements.

The simple facts are:
- Crysis is incredibly scalable from a go forward pov.
- It actually exceeded its first months sales targets and will continue to sell thousands over the next year.
- In the US, sales of the top PC titles cannot be compared to the volume for consoles, but that isnt true for the rest of the world. The EU and Germany in particular has a much stronger PC base than consoles.
- The undelying global trend for PC games sales is decreasing, but is a long way from needing the last rights...
- Crysis doesnt perform as well as I would like on a 2.5 year old rig (7800GTX) but I am stuck with it till we complete QA testing on Obsidian Edge 2 specifically to try and avoid these type of scaling debates...

What you though I would let a Crysis thread go to waste without a little cyberpimping? :P

PC Games Crysis and UT3 Flop

Neither Crysis or UT3 sold more than 100,000 units in their November debut--sign of a PC gaming trend?

The simExchange reports that neither Crysis or UT3 managed to sell more than 100,000 units in their debut last month.

Crysis, which requires an unprecedented US$1500-$2500 in PC upgrades to play, sold 86,633 copies in the U.S., while Unreal Tournament 3 sold just 33,995 copies.

In January 2005, Vivendi said it sold 1.7 million copies of Half-Life 2 in just two months; much more than either Crysis or Unreal 3 for a similar period.

Though both games were released in the middle of the month, their numbers are clearly less than what EA and Midway had hoped for.

Are gamers abandoning the PC? Without jumping the gun, some believe the PC market is shrinking with exception to a few specific genres like the massively popular World of Warcraft MMO.

Indeed, both Xbox 360 and PS3 offer comparable, if not equal, graphics technology in most cases at a fraction of the cost. What was once the platform for hardcore shooters has seemingly been relegated to second place.
what utter ********! :) (am i allowed to say that or is it classed as swearing here ? :/)

I will be buying these games but just not yet for the simple fact that with christmas costs i simply cant afford the upgrades needed right at this minute and i would bet many many other people are doing exactly the same thing. come back to me in 12 months with the figures and then you will have a better picture. to base an entire multi billion pound global market on ten days of sales of 2 titles is stupidity at its highest level.
