Yay, my first thread necrophillia of the new year
LMAO.
Been playing catch up and just spent an entertaining half an hour reading this one...
Ulf has hit the nail on the head in most of his rebuttals, only one I would correct is this:
That's a moot point as Far Cry was the same and they didn't sell CryEngine to other developers.
Not such a moot point this time around.
Crytek are very much marketing the Engine around the industry, they have already announced a number of games and educational utilities that they have sold the licence to, and I am aware of a significant number of other "done deals" that are pending public announcements.
The simple facts are:
- Crysis is incredibly scalable from a go forward pov.
- It actually
exceeded its first months sales targets and will continue to sell thousands over the next year.
- In the US, sales of the top PC titles cannot be compared to the volume for consoles, but that isnt true for the rest of the world. The EU and Germany in particular has a much stronger PC base than consoles.
- The undelying global trend for PC games sales
is decreasing, but is a long way from needing the last rights...
- Crysis doesnt perform as well as I would like on a 2.5 year old rig (7800GTX) but I am stuck with it till we complete QA testing on Obsidian Edge 2 specifically to try and avoid these type of scaling debates...
What you though I would let a Crysis thread go to waste without a little cyberpimping?
