The game is only just playable with its current graphics on maximum unless you have the best of the best so any graphics mod will make it unplayable. There was an Avatar mod which had gorgeous graphics for it but it was pretty much unplayable. Not sure about warhead as its a little easier on systems in the first place though. Cant wait for the sequal or something?

This is the later version of extreme quality (3.0.55), it's amazing, and you can get a good solid 40+ fps on good systems. This also omits the TOD file of the earlier video, so less OTT brightness and whatnot.

6gb+ RAM, i5+, GTX480 would hit good frame rates even with AA. (40+ with a 2/4x AA - something like that)
Looking at it now... it's seems anything better than a well clocked 260/216 or a stock 280 will get you playable frame rates with no AA but you might have to leave one or two bit's left out. I
f you packing anything better than that your looking at the 40+fps in realtime without AA, and if you want AA it'll take a GTX480 or better to get good frame rates there!
(I've seen about 30fps from a GTX260/216 without AA but all the other graphical juice - and he had an E8400 running it all!)

I love reading utter nonsense posted as fact. At least it's entertaining... unless you have no reference to realise they are talking crap.
OP the mod you're looking for is called "The Official CCC CUDAATS 2.21" and it absolutely rocks. You can completely see the graphical difference when you install it. Sorry I can't provide a link but that's the name... there may also be a newer revision of the CCC mod but this is the version I used a couple of years ago and I was immensely impressed.
EDIT: You know what; I'm sorry PodMonkey that was a little harsh. It was an over reaction in classic BLACK AND WHITE forum style. In retrospect your logic could have been down to experience and you shouldn't be skewered for ommiting "I'm guessing that..." from your post. You were trying to help and that's commendable mate.

i didn't see much difference with this mod altho i've only played with this mod for about 30 minutes from the beggining of the game, i'm wondering if it applied the data properly
i always used to get strange water effects with the CCC mod were the water would just randomly turn solid blue, not tried it since i have had my 5850 so will have to give it another go
