Crysis hands on preview (bit-tech)

Hmm seems they weren't as impressed as they thought they'd be, AI issues as well.

And before anyone says ZOMG BETA!!!!!!!!, the games obviously in good enough shape that they're letting online sites try it and post impressions so i wouldn't expect massive changes between this and final product.

You could see various AI problems in most of the recently released videos.

It's not looking good. As I said in an earlier thread, it looks like Crytek have lost the race with this one tbh. BioShock is coming which looks fantastic, so is Call of Duty 4 (10 days before the release of Crysis).

It's possible they (crytek) have pushed too hard with this one. I'm sure the graphics will be top notch, but with the gameplay bar being raised with the likes of BioShock, will it provide a next-gen gameplay experience ?

I agree, they will still sell tonnes of copies though I expect.

I'm still really looking forward to it, but everyone who buys one game every now and again they will lose out I expect.

How is Bioshock raising the gameplay bar ? Its just another linear fps with mavity tricks and psychics that appeared in HL2 years ago, nothing new there apart from a different spin and skins

Have you been reading different stuff to the rest of us then? :D

i want to enable strength mode on the suit and throw someone through the buildings.
don't care how crap the AI is, the nuke says it all really.

i can understand what they are saying about the normal mode of the AI, but then again, not everyone is brilliant at games lol, they need to take in mind that people from around the world will buy this, average noob console gamers as well!!!

as for the gameplay, they cant really justify it from one level, and i would have thought that crytek wouldnt have revealed much for a preview after all this secrecy lol.

the only thing i wasnt sure on when watching vids, is how easily walls just fall down in houses lol.... you chuck a barrel into a wall and it just 'flops' down... surely it musnt be that easy lol....

its realistic, even here, the old houses are built proper solid using brick and mortar. but new houses areall just cardboard crap with plasterboard everywhere. they break too easily.

i will definetly lol, probably first off as well, because if you play a game on easy for the first few lvl's then kick it up, it seems impossible, but for me, if i play a game at the hardest (like colin mcrae for me atm, played pro mode and havnt tried anything else yet, but it seems normal now) you adapt to the game in that way and learn how to avoid being a muppet.

Im gona play it on ultra hard. Will make the game last longer and more challenging, rather than blitz the game in a few hours like i usually do.

To be fair though, they said they were playing it and found it all too easy, then they ramped it up to "ultra hard" and it was realistic. If you go through far cry on easy its ridiculous and boring... you have to stick it on hard/realistic to give yourself a challnge. Which they said "not surprisingly, that delivered a much more intensive experience".

Sounds pretty simple to me, all the demo videos so far have been set on easy IIRC and the people who play games all the time for a living played it on an easy setting and were shocked that it was, well.... easy

As if there won't be a way to map the suit changing feature to a side mouse button instead of the scrollwheel. Someone will find a way, if its not just built into the main menu control features.

To be fair, i think they've done a pretty shoddy review. Basically they talked about the gameplay being easy, then they turned it up to hard and it was harder (didn't see that one coming), then they said the lightings nice and the shadows match it, mentioned some of the effects.. rambled on about his mate feeling bad because he was playing on a tv screen from 2 feet away.

Just doesn't seem very professional. :(
