well i can't help but notice its the last day in July, August tomorrow and Crysis II will be here in a couple of months. anyone looking forward to returning to the nanosuit, this time in apocalyptic-style NYC? think the game is looking superb what i have seen of it so far, looks better than the original as well though cross platform suggests less hardware demanding? is CryEngine3 the holy grail of engines, that works well on PC and console alike, would like to hear anyones thoughts on this...:)

Yea definitely looking forward to it :D. On cross-platform, Crytek made it clear that they were developing each in parallel. So the dev team for the PS3 is different to that of the 360 which is in turn different from that on PC. So there'll be no 'consolitis' plaguing the PC version down to low quality.

I doubt CryEngine 3 will be that much better in visual fidelity than CryEngine 2, but that doesnt mean it wont look amazing. I imagine there'll be more emphasis on optimisation this time around, while keeping the features offered by CryEngine up to the latest standard

To be fair (and while it does look great), the game is one big bout of consolitis - the only reason it's in New York is because the 360 & PS3 struggled to render the same environments in the original Crysis. Crytek found it was much easier to develop for the consoles if they went to an urban landscape, where angular environments are many times more simple to render. On the plus side, this hasn't stopped them from absolutely getting the best they possibly can out of the hardware. It's all about doing the best you can with what you've got. This also means that not only are the environments easier on our PCs to render, the expertize Crytek has gained in working with restricted hardware in terms of memory and rendering pipelines will go a long way in making this a much smoother game to run than the original was.

Crysis 2 is definitely one of my most anticipated games.

We have some cool new features like deferred rendering (beats forward rendering by a mile for non-shadow casting lights) in the graphics department.

But yeah, your general view is quite correct. CryENGINE2 had a performance stigma attached to it, rightly or wrongly, and I don't think the dev uptake was as big as it could have been. The console R&D experience has helped massively in the task to make the game run smoothly on a wider range of systems.

Looking forward to it as long as

1. It runs well on mid/high end gear (being that it is also destined for console hardware getting on for 6 years old it should)

2. It avoids being an over simplified corridor shooter (haven't seen anything to persuade me it isn't going to be)

Me too. :D

We've heard that before though loads of times, remember the original brothers in arms? They were adamant that the pc version wasn't a port but just happened to have the same low res smudgy textures and the capped framerate of tis xbox counterpart.

Can't say I'm megaexcited, being in vast open enviroments is what Crysis is all about, restrict it to a city and it becomes just another shooter, albeit with nanosuits.

Yes I loved the first crysis and I think the 2ns will be fantastic. It seems they have 'steamlined' the game a but but hopefully they'll make up for that with good preformance and a compelling story like they have promised.

No, Crysis was way more than just vast open enviroments; I guess the game will still have the vast enviroments, only not so open. I personally, am looking forward to the cityscapes.

I'll be happy if we get to play as Psycho and make cracks like," I'm British you muppet!".

I'm sick to death of playing yanks, Warhead was a rare treat for me.
