So I thought I had better play Crysis all the way through with Crysis 2 on it's way.

Now, I was always under the impression that Crysis would be a three party story with each following directly where the last one finished.

But what confuses me is that the first finished with them on their way back to the Sphere to find Prophet, yet the next one is supposedly set three years later in New York, so when are we told what happens in between? Have I missed something, or is the story expected to be told at the beginning of Crysis 2 before moving on to New York?

i've only played half the first one, but there is Crysis Warhead as well you know, i think it's a continuation of the story (but not sure)

hmm.... so, prophets still alive. i suspected as much. You're lucky i don't care about spoilers!!;)

From what I can see Warhead just follows the same story as Crysis but from Pysco's perspective - too much to be playing the same story all over again this soon though, IMO :P

I cant remember, its been ages since i played warhead but I think it just expands on the story, as in you play a different character along the same time frame as the original story (in this case physco). Not sure what happened to prophet!

It's not playing the same story again, it's playing some events that you didn't see in the first one. If you recall, Psycho gets sent on a mission at one point in the first game, and then when you see him again, it's on the ship at the end where he's captured his "trophy". Warhead fills in what happened to Psycho during that time.

If you enjoyed the first game, play it. It's shorter, but faster paced in general.

I'm more interested in the huge gap in the story. I've just checked Youtube for the intro of Crysis 2 and all it answers is one question we already knew the answer to.

Was the first thing I picked up on when I saw the new trailer. The end of Crysis clearly set you up for a return to the Island to kick some ass. I can only assume they didn't want to make a whole new game that was essentially the second part of Crysis 1 but strung out. Which is wise, because the second half against the aliens wasn't nearly as good as the first half against the Koreans. I'm glad to see there's a lot more infantry kinda combat in Crysis 2, and even the aliens are in some sort of human form. The floaty things were just a bit naff.

To clarify in Warhead, you play the same time line as Crysis, just from Psycho's perspective. You meet up with Nomad at the same points as during Crysis. You're just roaming around a different bit of the island. Was a better game to be honest, the voice acting was great considering Crysis's was so epically poor. They'd learnt plenty of lessons already, so I have good hopes for this.

they wanted to start a new stroy that didn't need a back drop eg.. playing the first game to get as the people who play it on console could not of played the first game but before we start trashing the game for doing this like is happening in so many threads atm lets let the game come out and see it might just be realy good :)

it's set in NEW YORK probably because the Aliens in the first Crysis are total crap and ruined the end of the game, and therefore nobody would buy CRYSIS 2, if it means that you have to return to that island and fight those crappy Aliens again.

Are these same aliens in Crysis 2 ?................... i hope not
Crysis is a disaster story, it should have been a remake of the 1st FAR CRY

But Crysis 2 might be excellent, because this looks more like FEAR (or a normal shooter)

Indeed. I think they probably realised as well that they'd painted themselves into a corner (well, onto an island). Personally I'm glad it's not another island based game; it would be too similar if they'd done that again (I loved Farcry and Crysis, but am looking forward to a change in scenery).

It's to pander to the console narbs.

Good grief...

From Wikipedia...

Crysis 2 is set in New York City in the year 2023 (three years after the events of the first game), which has since been evacuated due to alien infestation. Similar to its predecessor, Crysis 2 will provide freedom to customize weaponry and abilities. Crytek wanted to avoid making another game set in a jungle environment, as were Far Cry and Crysis; New York City has been dubbed an "urban jungle". The urban atmosphere offers more options in how to progress and plan attacks. Players will be able to navigate between floors and buildings, as well as destroy cityscape.

Players will play as "Alcatraz", a Green Beret, the new successor of "Nomad", from the first game, although there has been speculation that "Alcatraz" may just be Nomad's new codename to stay anonymous to Crynet. The protagonist gains ownership of the Nanosuit 2, but in doing so angers the manufacturers – Crynet Systems. As a consequence, Crynet Systems starts a manhunt for the player. The Nanosuit 2 gives players more freedom in their options of how to tackle situations on the battlefield. The aliens–which may be completely unrelated to the original game's aliens–have undergone a major redesigning, transforming the ancient, hovering, blue-glowing, techno-organic warriors from the first game into high-tech armored cyborg war machines that stalk the ravaged New York.

The new Nanosuit supports new and upgraded features. However, suit functionality has been streamlined; there will be a brief period of time where players are able to use two modes simultaneously before the suit fully locks the mode. This is longer than in the first game, in which two modes can only be used simultaneously for a split second. The first suit's Strength and Speed modes have been combined into one Power mode, the suit binoculars function has been replaced with an advanced Tactical mode, Cloak mode has been modified to allow increased sensory input and silent melee stealth kills and has been renamed to Infiltration mode, while the Armor mode has been left more or less as is, with the exception of slightly restricted agility.

Personally I think this game sounds awesome, and from what I've seen of the trailers it looks stunning, currently resisting the temptation to download the leaked beta. Got my limited edition copy on pre-order, can't wait.

It sounds awesome, and I'm not disputing what they've done with number 2, I'd just like the gap in the story to be filled in.

Imo, the reason it's set in New York is because it's easier to render concrete jungle than an actual island on the consoles.

GAH! what the hell is it with the hatred for the end of the game, in what way was it worse than running around shooting helpless koreans in the jungle?

I found the end of the game incredibly boring, the AI of the aliens sucked and killing them was really inconsistent.

Not that killing Koreans was particularly consistent, I really do hope they've addressed hitboxes or whatever the issue is in #2.

Yeah I am a bit lost on the story and the timeline.

The bit that annoyed me in the first one was stuck inside that alien ship not knowing which way's up, lol. Took ages to get out of there.

They got an actual writer to come up with a story for this one. The aliens have now got a humanoid form as well so that should be a bit more fun.

Well worth completing the games again before Crysis 2 comes out. I did it over the weekend. Took me about 8 hours for Crysis and 4 hours for Warhead. Well worth playing them again, as I had forgotten some of the storyline which is now fresh in my mind.

Also first time I played the game max settings with 4x aa with no lag :)
