Hi all,

Just played the crysis pre-released demo, very impressed but no fun when the frame rate is 2fps :(. Had a lot of sound stutter just like when i first installed bioshock but when i unistalled my soundmax hd sound drivers the fps went up to 30fps. Great increase but still choppy in the forest areas. ANother thing puzzles me is that when i click on optimal settings all the settings in advanced are turned to very high but the game still suffers from lag?

Anyway it is still a pre-released demo and im willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. As far as i can tell it is not optimised for multicore either yet anyway.

Need couple of suggestions to improve performance please:

1, Running a e6300@ 3.0Ghz, most probably will upgrade to Q6600 very soon but is this a problem?
2, Running Geil PC6400 2gb (4x512)@ 2.1V, 4-4-4-12 @830MHZ. will a upgrade to 4gb make a difference?
3, running a 8800GTX stock, pointless to upgrade this to an ultra in my opinion but dont know whether it would play the game ok when its released.

Finally, UT3 and bioshock ran at 1680x1050 with full AA and AF with the above settings with ease and since its too early to say whether the final game would be better, should i just wait until the game is released or should i start upgrading it now?

Thanks

very high graphics settings are for the new generation of cards that haven't been released yet (the nVidia 9800 series)

i can play the game perfectly fine with everything on high (but no AA)and i have an 8800GTX @ stock like you.
honestly, AA is the real killer in this game. there are hundreds of thousands of edges that must be Anti-Aliased in every single frame. turn it off!

one last thing, turn fraps off.

Thats not what Cevat Yeril said in 1 of his many interviews, the scaling for future will be added by patches as the settings are in the game now.

A 8600GTS for High and faster cards needed to play Higher (would seem he means 8800's and there is 1 setting higher than high and thats " Very High).

Lets hope the final aint like this as nobody will be able to play it at High Res on High or Very high with 35-40+ FPS.

Which resolution are you playing it on? Also, what nvidia drivers you running, i have turned off AA and gained about 3 more frames but thats it.

ok i ran the game on low settings and was getting 50-70 fps changing when i ran or looked up. On very high its unplayable, on high its still unplayable but again i would like to know whether the resolution is also a culprit in hitting the fps. on 1680x1050 got 7 fps lowering it to 1280 and the fps went up to 23 and if i lower it to a dismal 800 the game is still choppy. Im just going to let it go as being an unoptimised pre-released demo which is not fit to play, i mean people with q6600 are having trouble then what can i complain about :).

this is why i holded of the first gen of dx10 cards (including 8800gt) they always seemed to struggle with next gen games

you got all the bad ports poorly coded arguments if i am going to part with nearly £200 i need to know it will do what i want and last a while

i just did not get that vibe from these cards to me there is something that needs fixing badly with dx10 cards they just seem like very good dx9 cards but games are moving on now

running XP-x64, using nVidia 163.71 drivers (they're the latest official) at a res of 1680x1050 (running the 64 bit version of the game)

Have any of you tweaked or played with the settings as at all? You might find that if you drop shadows to medium, textures to high, and shaders to high(aslong as you can live without parrallax occlusion) then you can run the game on very high, it seems these settings really bare no impact on the visual quality of the game.

Dont know what made it work but after restarting the game, i played the whole demo on very high with avg fps hovering between 40-60, very playable and looked awesome. I even turned on AA 4x just to see, yes the performance hit is immense and by the way i played the game on 1280x960. Have not tried it on 1680x1050. All in all it needs major optimisation, especially multicore support. during the whole demo i only manage to get 1 core to be at 40%, very strange.

Im not too sure what kind of upgrade is required to improve the overall performance. I guess i have to wait until the full game is released.

i played at 1024x768 with 8800gtx set to balanced and crysis settings on high, still experienced a lot of lag

I get the same thing if I try and run in DX10 mode of Vista x64. Runs fine in DX9 mode (right click on it in games and chose the appropriate "run in mode" from the drop down) /shrug

Already rolled back. Just wanted to see what the fuss was about. People have seen big gains in performance with these drivers or so they claim. Not for me though.

Sound drivers also are affecting the games performance greatly. Mine are up to date with vista 64. When installed the game suffers from great lag and sound crackling but when i uninstall them it works fine.
