Crysis Problems

Hi, I bought Crysis a few days ago and haven't really had a sit down with it until now. My problem is that for some reason the game will crash after a few minutes of play.

I get a black screen, a message that I can click which closes the program and then a notification in the systray telling me the following:

"display driver "nvlddmkm" stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

I assumed this was something to do with drivers so I downloaded the newest version I could find for my 9800GT 186.18 I believe. Now I think these are beta drivers so I've also downloaded an earlier stable version as well as trying the original ones that came with the graphics card. None of these work and all result in the same problem, also it may be of importance that no other games have this problem on my machine. I have patched Crysis to version 1.2.1 and I have Windows Vista Premium 64 bit with service pack 1 installed.

If anybody has any ideas on how to resolve my problem then that would be good :) Also my system spec is in my sig :)

You were probably right with the first guess, sounds like the card is trying to draw too much power and the PSU can't cope with it. It's unlikely the RAM would cause a problem that quickly. RAM issues tend to be fairly intermittent in my experience. Only other thing I can think is it might be the graphics card overheating so have a look at the temps it's getting to while Crysis is running.

It's a Coolermaster RealPower 1000W :) Also nothing is overclocked, all stock settings, by the way, do either of you guys know a free program I can use to monitor the graphics card temperatures? And if so how would I go about checking that while Crysis is running? run it in a window maybe? or is there some sort of overlay that can be used while the game is in full screen? :)

In that case, if you have anything overclocked, have you tried setting it back to stock settings?

Nothing is overclocked, as said in my previous post matey :)

And okie dokie, I'll go try that program right now, post back the results in a few minutes time :) Cheers

Okay idle temperature seems to be 47.5 and while in Crysis it fluctuates between 55.5 and 60 I'd say that's a reasonable temperature. Or would you disagree? :)

No, no problems in the other games that I've tried, namely Hells highway, Command & Conquer 3 and Company of Heroes, All those games work perfectly fine. :)

:) hehe. Okay :) So do you think the problem I'm having is heat related? Or more likely a software issue?
At this stage I'd say software. I run XP 32bit SP3 with most things overclocked and Crysis is steady as a rock, so can't comment on Vista. A quick bit of googling for your symptoms brought back a lot of hits, I mean a LOT!

Really? I did try and use the Google on the Internet machine :P But I couldn't really find anything that would fix my problem. Like I've mentioned I have tried rolling back driver versions, and even removing them from device manager and re-installing the original ones that came with the card, all to no avail. :(

This problem has been happening ever since vista has been released. It has nothing to do with power supplies or hardware it is Nvidia drivers. The only way to fix it is buy ATI or install XP.

Doesn't sound too appealing to me! :o

After reading a few of the threads there it seems that it's a problem that numerous people have, but that nobody really knows the answer to?

Well I played it on vista with an 8800GTX before upgrading to Windows 7 and a 4870x2 and had no problems at all. Have you tried the obvious running in compatibility/administrator modes?

Yep sure did, Although this is a very weird problem because for the past hour I've been playing fine with no crashes even though earlier it barely managed 10 minutes. I just wish I had a copy of XP to try it on.
