Crysis = Unplayable

Heck I just got myself a new 8800GT and even that struggles on High/Medium at 1680x1050 with no AA. Fine most of the time but once you hit the ice part of the game it becomes a slide show at 5fps. Then the second you leave the ice it's fine again. Something very funny going on with the ice rendering.

I got that too at that part, it went from pretty good all round to juddery and jerky as hell. I'm on an X1900XT though so I dont expect it to be perfect anyway.

I personally think it's a little 50/50 in this case.

1.An upgrade would not go a miss.
2 Better optimization of the code in said game would help.

Due to the hardware available today programmers do become a little lazey it seems. but this has been going on for many years since the pc has become more of a games platform.Unlike the Amiga/St e.t.c times.

cheers jay.

Gee, i tried it with my onboard graphics a while back and it was definitely playable. Your spec should run it fine. These programmers etc!! Why not make a game that is compatable with 90% of pc's instead of making it unplayable for a lot of people?

This weekend I downloaded the demo and gave it a go just to see if my pc could run it, to my syrprise it ran better than i anticipated. Every thing set to low-25fps, medium-16fps, high-9fps using the 163.75 drivers and no AA. After playing around with the settings on mixture of high or medium the level played at 9-16 fps with pauses occasionally sometimes frequently sometimes not. This game is one fantastic piece of eye candy even in DX9, but on the demo I got the feeling it was just FarCry in next gen engine with a different story, but still good from what I have played. I'll just need a new pc to play it through properly.

On Low though it looks worse than pacman on the Amiga, i wouldnt bother, and yes i am a graphics whore. :)

Well, I still have an AGP card albeit a Bliss 7800GS+ 512mb & I have 2gig Corsair ram & AMD 4000+. 75gig Raptor & XP sp2 so I have a lower system than you have.
I can play o.k on all Medium settings in all the jungle levels with no real problems at all so something must be amiss with your system, the only momentary stutters I have are in close combat with a bunch of Koreans all at once but in general it runs fine, make sure its not your soundcard causing lag

couldn't play the later levels after the mine & had to drop to low & even then it was a slideshow on the carrier outdoors

Trying to render the amount of data on-screen that Crysis does (high polygon trees, high quality shaders, time of day effects, leaves, high poly characters, grass etc etc) + all the data that the CPU has to work through (ai, physics, open levels etc etc) is a pretty remarkable achievement.
People expect a lot from games, and when it doesn't deliver 100% they disrespect it (to put it lightly).
When people say it's **** ****** ******* I don't think they actually mean it, I think it's because it didn't match what they expected it to deliver.

Well the feedback here has put me off getting Crisis until I can upgrade. I want to enjoy it at high/very high. I haven't been following graphics cards / cpus / chipsets ect since I built my last system. I remember deciding to wait until atleast second generation DX10 cards are here as the first gens of a series always tend to be a little underpowered or worse (im thinking of the GeForce 5 series). Are the coming next gen cards likely to be able to support Crisis in very high with a resolution of 1280*1024 and full AA ect. Or should I wait for 3rd gen DX10 cards?

I think the thread should be renamed to :
Crysis = Unplayable on old hardware

I dont ! See Rig in Sig

Mines is still in the box, i installed it hoping it would play better than demo but it doesnt,
Still waiting on the Sli patch that was promised within 2 weeks of launch :o
I did look at the tweak guides but it looks a lot of work for 28fps TBH
I am looking forward to playing and have avoided all spoilers so far but i refuse to play a slide show when there are other games that look good and play smooth just out, UT3, HL2EP2, TF2 WIC and COD4, making the experience enjoyable out the box

I can try crysis on a ATI 8500le for a laugh if you like but I bet you if it does work at all that I can get a workable frame rate from it though it would look crap obviously

i had no problems at all playing crysis at medium on my 1900xt. Looked good and was playable at all times

Because its a powerfull card still, it'd probably be ok with some high settings Im sure

Got mine running with everything on high, no AA, DX9 at 1280x1024 on a Q6600 overclocked to 3Ghz, 2gig of ram and a 8800GTS. Getting average fps of 30, can go down to 10, up to 40/50.

Basically, run it in DX9 mode for starters, that gave me an extra 20fps easy. Also turn off the AA, it kills my system at least.

The problem I have with Crysis is that graphical demands are not balanced from level to level. The frame rate is not consistent and that's just poor game design.

I agree 100%.

I managed to run it with High settings and AA on a BFG 8800GT OC2 until the final boss battle. It became a slide show and my machine froze twice. Turned a few things down to medium and that sorted it.

Absolutely struggling to even play this, it was okay before but now (im at the school level) it's unplayable, it just lags consantly and freezes all of the time so in a combat scenes it's like watching a security camera, freeze lag can't even play it. Put all settings to medium and it's still the same. Specs:

Geforce 7900 GTO 512MB
2GB Corsair
3.4GHZ P4 X2
2x250GB HD's

I even defragged the drive but still the same crap, I guess I'll try putting it on all low and seeing if it still does it.

I think some optimization is required mate.

I play Crysis, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and others which all run very well, on generally low settings, with a very much poorer spec than yours!

Gears of War went back as it was literally a slide show mind you! :o

A64 3000+, Gigabyte Sct 939 Nforce 3 Mobo, 2.5GB DDR400, Asus N7600GS Silent 256MB (AGP) and 4 hard drives totaling circa 500GB.

Some people here have funny views of what old hardware actually is!!! ;)

I found the guides at http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_1.html have helped greatly (with a lot of trail & error ) all in all, I'm playing the games, they still look good given the low settings.

As I'm currently off work sick, an upgrade is out of the question for me atm!

Keep twiddling mate, you should at least be able to play the game(s).

Otherwise, smash that piggy bank!
