Crysis, what is limiting the framerate?

Ok, ill make it simple for everyone who thinks its the game.

Crysis was released in 2007, now Crytek have said its 2x years ahead, 2007+ 2 years = 2009, now what cards have you all got now, and will have right up till August (or could be beyond, as we don't know what's coming after that so can't say), thats right 2006 cards, now someone correct me if i am wrong, but isn't 2006 1 year behind when Crysis was released, i think it is, so there you have it, easy as that.

ITS THE HARDWARE :)

Someone with something between their ears, wish I could say the same for the poster...s above you :p;)

I dont know what all the fuss is about.

1680x1050 All high ran smooth all the way through

8800 GTS 640mb OC
C2Duo "conroe" E6320
Geil 2gb PC2-6400 C4 800mhz ultra low latency ram

worked fine for me

And me, I've completed it. It seems the only people that have issue are the ones that haven't barely played it or given it a fair trial. They sit back in their armchairs and jump on the "OMGCRYSISLOWFPS CODING FAILZ" bandwagon. Because we all know it's cool to hate Crysis atm.

If they spent more time sitting down and playing than worrying about FPS they would enjoy the game. It certainly is one of a kind at the moment.

ridiculous use of bold and font size aside, nobody has said the hardware wont be improved on.

the issue here is just how the engine is limited no matter what combinations of hardware are thrown at it. with farcry was released, things were very different and the cards at the time (6800 and x800, i think?) were very obviously flawed in some respects, the unified tech of the 8800's and x2900's addressed that pretty solidly, and what we have with the arrival of the 8800 was a gpu (theg80) that was efficient at just about everything it does. thats not to say its perfect, it isnt, but dont be fooled in to thinking the next round of cards will be twice as fast like the g80's were.

It'll only happen if they manage to shrink down to something like 45nm and double the complexity of the cores. other than stacking processing units on top of each other, i dont really see how they can really improve things. Maybe thats the real reason for the delay, maybe the 8800's were too good and now both amd AND nvidia are playing catchup? maybe the timescale they seem to be working on should have had the 8800's released a year later? who knows, im just throwing questions around.

I do believe, however, that its something specific holding the engine back. an easier anwser than "technology isnt fast enough". And dont forget, loadamoney, that the scaled back the engine massively just so it would run on todays hardware. that definitely isnt right but if nothing else, it pokes fun at your equation up there.

Obviously hardware will be improved on, everyones just waiting for Nvidia and AMD to step out of 2006, the rate they are going, ill be dead before they do. :)
