I'm looking to pick up an amp for pc audio duties, currently using the other half's yamaha m170 but think its time i gave it back.

I was looking at picking up a cyrus amp to run a pair of diamond 9.1's I've got kicking around. So far I've seen (locally) A cyrus 5 for £250 and a Cyrus 3 with psxr for £350. Now unfortunately Down here on the arse end of cornwall 2nd hand cyrus (or hifi in general) doesn't crop up to often, thus when it does it tends to be expensive.

Am I right in thinking these two units are over priced?

If possible I would prefer to buy locally so I could have a gander before I hand over money. Therefore I will admit I'd rather not use ebay (although I do nosy through to see if anyone within 75 miles has anything I maybe interested in.)

If anyone has any suggestions on where I should look for a better deal I'd be grateful for the help.

Restricting yourself to one brand -and popular s/h choice at that- isn't the best way to shop for used amps. The Cyrus amps are probably priced about right. Do you need something with such a small footprint? In which case you'll be paying through the nose. If you can take something more conventionally shaped then your choices become a lot greater.

They are quite desirable though, I've always wanted one, at least to try out/test but as you say the prices never make it into the 'impulse purchase' zone.

I'm aware of that, but unfortunately I can only accommodate a half width box. Which is a shame as I have an old nad c320bee knocking about in the cupboard. :(

Yeah, its a pain when space is tight. I owned a Cyrus One for a long time. They come up now and again. There's also the Teac Reference series mini systems. They are hi-fi products in shrunk-down form. Teac did separate amps in the range.

Don't overlook the little project boxes either. Rarely come up used but new prices are cheaper than you're looking at.

Cheers for the suggestions, I'll keep my eyes open for the following:

Teac h300
Mf x series (wish I'd bought the x8 headphone amp when I had the chance :( )
Project

As well as Cyrus and maybe naim. Any other suggestions?
