Just found this article with an interview about in-game advertising in cs 1.6.

Not sure what to make of this, i dont play 1.6 any more, but what if valve decided to implemenet it into its other products, I am not sure I want to see an advert for coke whilst I wonder around half-life 2.

Isn't the point of gaming about getting away from the real world? I for one hate ads and will email valve if the ads are not approriate for the game environment or just plain get in the way.

Valve are dumb tbh. Im a very competetive gamer in source, and when you switch teams ect a fair few people will have there games close and just go streight to desktop. They need to fix the bugs and not add more crap to make more bugs .

1337z0r is correct, if they had finished making the darn game then i would be more welcome to something like adverts in the game, obviously the idea of monetising the mod scene would be fantastic, and would lead to the end of companies abandoning a mod with loads of bugs in stating a lack of money as a reason to stop developing........................................................

im not supprised

its been a long time comming. Computer games have come a long way as a media form, and especially in PC games.

It wont be long before ads in games become commonplace. I dont they will ever get too much, as the ads are only of use if people play the game and look at them. If people dont play the game, they ads dont make them money

as they've already pointed out, dust2 has the gamehelper.com ads in it, i would expect the 3rd party advertising to work in a similar subtle way.

Ineed ^^

Does my head in when playing Clan games and this stuff happens. There is a lot in Source that feels to me could be tweaked majorly.

Ah well at least they realised they messed up Dynamic Pricing and are changing some pistols now to match Deagle standard ^^

Thank god !

Source is awful though, I wish they would quit whilst they are far enough behind at get back to 1.6

Will be posters and other boards in the game, like they have in some maps as decorations.

Valve will use the excuse that if CS 1.6 is to continue development they need a steady revenue stream so that means advertising.

As long as the ads aren't out of place then it wouldn't bother me. If I was playing a game where I was in a City and there was Ads on bus shelters and on video screens in the middle of a large city centre then it wouldn't bother me as it's realistic.

But if I'm playing a game and the ads are plastered in such a way that it's obtrusive and detracts from the immersion then i'd be annoyed. Like if I was playing Oblivion and there was a billboard in the middle of the forest advertising cars and all I had was a bloody horse, I'd be peeved :D

like what Bramski said, if its not in stupid places i dont think it would bother me really as i dont really take much notice of the textures on maps anyway mat_picmip 4 *** ;)

They wont be happy until we are running around in macdonald uniforms instead of CS outfits.

T's will be fitted out like Burger K outfits.

Either that or they will just put a few posters on the wall and vehicles. Replace the vending machines with known brands.

I dont think it will effect it much to be honest
