When I play CS:S, after a while the game'll either crash and say hl2.exe has stopped working or the sound will stop.

What could be the problem?

I'm using Vista by the way.

ALSO how do people manage to get such long range kills with like the M4 with one or two shots, it seems impossible when I try and do it.

Many thanks neighbourinos

crouch down and wait for the crosshairs to narrow, then only aim for the head.

Try using cl_dynamiccrosshair 0 and maybe a smaller crosshair will help you although anything above 3k is crap tbh. 1300-2200 is about right imo.

lol, i still laugh at people that insist on certain cfg files, right size crosshair, this that and the other. The point of whatever crosshair you use is the dead center of the screen. inteligence and predicting where players will run/go/be at is where skill comes into the game. If you're relying on cfg's and certain framerates to win, you aren't great :p

I always use(well used) a standard default setup bar adjusting mouse sensitivity to something that felt right and whacking all detail to max in highest res screen can do, rarely bumped into a player i couldn't beat and was ranked no.1 in uk on xstats for several weeks in the 3 months I really bothered playing cs:s, playing on the no.1 uk server with most of the top 20-30 players playing on said server of which I joined 3 clans and found all 3 ghosted a lot and got bored playing the game.

if you aren't good at a game in 2 weeks, you won't be great in 4 years either.

People with skill dont play on public servers. No doubt you played with ED retards who thought they were immense, experience counts in the game massively, those who crossed over from original 1.6 and destroyed everything else proves it.

When you play at the top a drop in framerate gets you or your teammate killed, little things count. Public is completely different, as is playing with 'ED skill' people

One word for you, PUBLIC!

I bow to you for you must be god.

I need to play on one of these private servers.

I'm pretty good on public ones, usually either first or second but it only means that the other players are ****.

Anyone care to speculate on the KPD ratio of a real 'pro' on public servers?

the game is dumb overall but i still play it :) i just dont get why they dont make the crosshair actually display where the shots will hit within. like Cod etc rather than aim at head shoots out of screen dumb game

One word for you, PUBLIC!

yes, i've only ever played on public servers, and never once played a proper match, I bow down to your uber skills and your assumption that not a single decent player players on a public server ever, well done.

Theres public server, like i dunno gamershell servers 1 through 58, then theres clan servers without passwords with primarily all clan match players. They might not be the best clans ever, but that doesn't make them bad.

THe most funny thing is people who think they are uber elite in a semi decent clan who barely ever play against anyone except themselves or 1 or 2 other teams as practice. They don't seem to understand that different people play differently and a variety of people to play against helps you far more than playing against the same 6 people over and over and over again. Everyone has their favourite tactics and hiding spots, if you practice against a very limited set of people you will get used to the way those people play, but not necessarily how the next team you face will play.

Meh, always get bored arguing with elitist people who think they simply must be better purely because they enter a password when entering a server yes, your ability to type in a password does prove that your better than anyone else

I have the same problem with CS:S randomly crashing. Also when i exit the game, either manually or because it has crashed i get the HL2.exe has stopped working error message.

Is very strange, i have tried running Steam in XP SP2 compatibility mode and i still get the same issue. Am running Vista Business x64bit edition.

Or you yourself have a retarded idea of the pro arena. You are correct, there's plenty players similar to how you discribed, however they're also pants. There is no point in playing public as its far too easy when at this level, people do stupid things you will never see in a match and it doesnt mimic a match in the slightest, it serves as a terrible form of aim practice. I dont think im elite or whatever, i quit playing long ago and would be terribly bad if I attempted to play again. However for those top teams playing the same top teams all the time, why not? You wont come up across anything new, just get to know the competition even better which is valuable, any new teams are simply a bunch of players mashed together from top teams that have died. Nothing could be gained from playing idiots from the usual leagues, its a completely different game again, tactics become completely unneccessary.
