CS Source FPS

Hi there!:)

I am stuck :) i got steam installed and CS Source it works don't get me wrong!:) just the fps is horrid and the sound is behind the game play ?:( i have been googling but cant seem to find anything.

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 and it is fully updated can you point me at some links that might help me ?:)

I get the same fps on low and high setting, i installed my video card through the OS is this the correct method or are these drivers not correct ?

Wow Runs fine, as does CS 1.6 appears i have the correct drive installed from searching about is there a setting i need to change to get source games to work correctly ?

Right click the game in steam click properties/preferences and add -dxlevel 80 to launch options. Also, compiz is known to cause poor performance. Make sure it's turned off (I think you can simply kill it through gnome-system-monitor).

To install drivers you should only have to click hardware drivers and choose to install proprietary drivers.
 
What ya using for steam on linux? Just curious because I want to port over to Linux and want to be able to do everything on it :)

Steam works pretty well using wine if you don't mind manually installing and configuring it (not a biggie and there are plenty of guides available... even I managed it!), otherwise you can use Cedega which makes it as easy as point 'n' click... but there is a small monthly charge for using Cedega (but it does manage more games than just the Steam games).
 
i had tf2, css and dod s mworking real;ly well on linux, sound was like it was in windopws

just had to add dx level 80 as said before.

Also my res of 1680 x 1050 caused issues and is known with wine, had to lower the res.

dunno if wine fixed this.
