HI all,

How do i calculate my CSA payments based on the old system.

There is a simple calculator online for the new system but since i weas last evaluated, my mortgage has increased, my gas & electric, council tax and i dont get any overtime at work anymore.

I understand i can contact the CSA but i will if i have to other i prefer not too.

Also any ideas when people move from the old to the new system?

Any ideas?
 
Then what is there to worry about, if your out goings have gone up and your earnings have gone down or stayed the same then your CSA payments should drop. I would give them a call but before you do work out the difference in your out goings compared to the last evaluation. You could have course just call them and ask for the information without telling them who you are........
 
You can't - it's so complicated you can never tell if you've got it right or wrong....well that's sort of true - my advice would be to dig out your last assessment - it lists out the calcs, so you should be able to rework them

As for moving from the old system to the new - I wouldn't hold your breath. When me and my ex went to the CSA, all the info on the website was for the new scheme, however, when they started processing I discovered that I had been assessed under the old scheme - gutted (and about £140 a month worse off for the last 6/7 years). When they started the new scheme the 'intention' was to migrate every case over. The reality is that the CSA never had a migration plan, so you'll be stuck on the old scheme. It's still not clear to me what impact the change in the CSA in the next couple of years will make - any ideas youself?

Not true. They do have a migration plan - 5 years to slowly swap everybody over the new system.

In my mates case it would mean his assessment would go down from £140 to £50 per week.

Perhaps I should look at the website more often (assuming of course that the info is up to date!)

Ahhh, it becomes clearer - they've managed to migrate 82,000 since March 2003, only another 643,400 to go - I'll be on the new scheme in no time. I guess most kids will have reached 18 before their cases are migrated

CSA website

It is expected that the new system for calculating child maintenance will be introduced by the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission in 2011. All CSA clients will then be invited to apply to the new scheme or to make a private agreement. It is currently planned this process will take three years.

To be honest I'll believe it when I see it. I've been told so many timescales by people at the CSA I generally don't believe them anymore. If you believe the CSA everyone should have been moved across years ago.

I guess that is hat they are banking on. Less people to transfer that way ;)
 
I had read someshere online that the CSA are have to ignore pension payments when calculating what you have to pay up.
So when you find out you are being assessed you set up a pension paying all your salary in except, say, £150 a week take home. As soon as the assessment is over you stop paying into the pension. They then have to assess your income on the 150, not your real salary.

I was told in 2001 I would be moved to the new system and, er, that was 7 years ok!!

Not true on old rules we only allow 50% of pension payments. And if a client did that we would use there YTD figure
