Hi

I had my CSS running at a good speed but lost the settings on it and its reverted back to normal.

Can anyone come up with some nice commands that gets rid of stuff that is not really needed. I can not remember which ones i used.

I have got rid of things like splashes and stuff but cant remember what else I removed.

One thing I would be interested in knowing is that you can increase the memory used, I have 4gb but I think only 3.5 shows with XP.

Thanks

I'm guessing you've got 32-bit XP then, it won't use 4 Gb. See this thread for more information.

As for CSS fps you might want to look for "Caseys config" as it's built for fps with legal commands.

What on earth do you consider to be a 'good speed'?..

I have mine maxxed out, 6xAA, 16AF @1680, and get ~140 fps on a X1950pro..

You're struggling to get 'good speed' with an 8800?

I am not struggling, I just want to cut it down as best possible to give any advantage.

I am getting over 200 fps, just find it goes better by cutting out the extra effects.

Here we go again..

Does the Source Engine actually have any physics benefits with certain higher FPS, as the Quake 3 engine did?

I do find it amusing when people turn down their settings on high end rigs, to try and squeeze out any ounce of 'help' they can get..

look at steam survey, most play it on 3yr old pc's that cant run max settings.

more than 200fps will not make things better. A thing called "skill" is needed..

I am glad I amuse you

nope to much fps is disadvantage.

As your screen will struggle sync with the fps.

i run vsync at all times

What is the best settings for this then, select max fps 100? Or 101?

There are lots of angry people in here. I wasnt saying that I wanted to know because I was rubbish and needed an advantage. I just wanted some friendly advise on running it smoothly.

Best bet is to:

Turn vsync on. - will give you 60 or 100fps. dependent on screen.
Turn HDR off.
Make sure shadows are on at all times - they are a massive give away for the camping scum ;)

over then that it wil make the game easier to play.

Do you find the game really really unsmooth?

I used to use casey's config on my old machine, I don't bother anymore as I average 120FPS or more depending on the map. If you're above 60FPS you should be able to shoot and kill as you please :).

lol.

Which one is it?

Ok ok. That wasnt too clear. I want my computer to run at its maxium performance. So that everything is in sync.

I dont want any advantages with playing. My skills are ok, but always welcome advice if you have any. Other than playing it on a regular basis I am not sure of any additional help you could advise though.

No its not unsmooth, its just with the settings reset I cant quite get it back to where I was before. Limiting things like splashes and stuff I found helped on less lag. My shooting seems a little out at the moment though, where as before I was hitting where i was aiming.
