I played CSS 8 months ago and had great performance of around 120fps average. I now get about 5 and have no idea why. Are there any decent tweak guides out there?

XP pro, vsync off. It seems like the performance has just degraded over time :(

Edit: Strangely changing my graphics settings and overclocking/underclocking my rig has next to no performance variance.

I seem to have had the same thing happened to me, a couple fo years ago it would fly on my system. Nothin has changed in my system except a new sound card and performace is rubbish now. I'm putting it down to all the patches they have done to the game.

I have a similar question, is this right?

I got my new rig, in Sig, and started up css, all details were at max, but AA was only at 4aa, af was on trilear or something. I was getting a good 120fps+, i thought my GTS could handle more though, so i put AA and AF at max, and it went down to around 40fps. Is that normal?

Im playing at 1440x900 btw.

I would say definately not. I run/ran a E6300, 1gb Geil 6400 and a XFX 7800 GTX - on total max settings at 1280x1024, i would average 150-170 FPS.

I would suggest biting the bullet and reinstalling steam/CSS. An easy way would be just to copy your GCF files and your account folder (for configs etc) and then do a fresh install.

ok thanks, it may be the dodgy drivers on vista atm, but it seems to of got better, i got a constant 120fps, on de_dust 38 players maxed out. So it seems to be ok now.

It is definitely not right. My old rig which is considerably worse than yours ran CSS much better.

Do what Barrington suggested, I'm not too sure what else you can really do.

Edit

Oh, you're on Vista. That's probably it tbh.

I used to run at 1680*1050 2*AA 8*AF all setting max and get 110-120fps on an overclocked:

AMD A64 3500+ (1st gen!) @ 2.55Ghz
1GB crap DDR RAM
6800GT OC'd to Ultra

I will try reinstalling CSS but I doubt it will help much :(

CSS isnt graphics card dependant. You can run a 8800GTX with a C2D E6300 and get the same fps as me with my E6300 and X1950XT. When i overclocked to 3GHz my fps boosted by nearley 90FPS :).

I run it 1600x1200 all max in options and get around 90fps always with my rig in sige so something is up altho if i try and run FEAR on any setting it doesnt go above 15fps and the problem was never solved

Aye but it's the same processor that I used to run.

Would a cheap s939 dual core help out at all?
