Dunno if you guys know this but i discovered it a couple of days ago and its made a huge difference. I currently use Icemat siberias for gaming and originally chose Headphones for all my game settings. Positional sound wasn't too bad but then i came across something else that improved the positional audio dramatically (better than my old medusas!)

1. In the CSS console type the following two commands: "snd_digital_surround 1" and "snd_surround_speakers 5". Might wanna check the spelling on them by the way. Could put them in your autoexec or you'll have to type it each time :-p

2. Now alt+tab out and open up your audio console and you'll have noticed the speaker settings have changed to 5.1. Change it to headphones.

3. Now go play :D

Unfortunately you'll have to repeat step 2 each time you load up CSS because step 1 changes the speaker settings in the audio console.

create a file called "autoexec.cfg" in your cfg folder in cstrike. Just put all your commands in there, a command per line.

Folder is somewhere here:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\**username**\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg

can you make a launch command so that when you launch a game it automatically puts your sound settings to headphones instead of speakers etc?

For the Audio Console speaker settings? I have no idea, i haven't really looked around for that

Is this not the same as going to sound options and choosing 5.1?

If it is it made my headphones sound tinny, i'll try what you suggested anyway. I got Sound Audigy 4.

Just tried that out, did what I thought.

Made my noise sound very tinny but did give 5.1, although didn't help in my case.

Thanks for sharing anyway.

Also to prevent having to tab out into control panel, just do this:

untick "Synchronize with Control Panel".

Don't think you need the 2nd command, just go to audio options and select 5.1
