Ok, every now and then when I play css halfway, it will just exit the game itself and appear at the loading screen. But the thing is, it will lock my comp everytime it does that and I have to reboot the pc.

Any ideas?

I will keep a log of temps. If the lock up happens again when the temp isn't too high, what do u think is the cause of it?

Could be a driver issue some where, im guessing becuase your running 8800's in SLI. You running in DX8 mode, 8800's dont like DX9 mode in css. Open uo steam go to your games list, right click counter strike source then click properties click set launch options. Then copy this into the box and click ok -dxlevel 81 -heapsize 1048576 this will change you game to dx 8.1 and let counter strike source run better as with the heapsize command your letting it use up to 1GB of ram which is recomended seeing as you have a monster rig there :). Once theres some drivers out which fix these issues just take the dxlevel command out ;).

Can't be temps, it happened again and this time I logged the GPU temp. When the " hang " happens again my load temp for the gpu is 72?? Which I am sure it is safe?

nuke it from space, if you leave the machine alone for about 2-5 mins after the lockup does it eventually bsod and give a nv4disply error?
That is the closest i can get to the same sort of error.

Try running with just one 8800gtx plugged in, see if it still does this locking up.

I'd go with the above.. I thought there wasn't any driver support for 8800GTX in SLi yet. I'm sure I read this somewhere.

Best to strip down to bare minimum then start adding until the same error occurs.

That is the error with SLi and playing CSS.

The thing is, if I leave the comp alone after the lockup, my pc won't show anything, the screen will just go blank.

This time I manage to get a glimpse of a pop up window.

It gave the warning, nv4_disp stopped responding.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure you are listening to anything that's being said.

Are you still running 2=8800GTX cards? If so, uninstall your video drivers, use a cab/driver cleaner to remove all entires. Setup the system to use only ONE card for now. Reinstall drivers.. Test.. Then repeat the process for both cards.

If both work in a single configuration, then It's likely the drivers don't support SLi for the 8800GTX cards, which I did read somewhere they don't (yet).

If one works and not the other, you have a faulty card.

If neither of them work, then is must something else... we'll come that later but let eliminate the first two scenarios for now.

Why dont you listen to what has been suggested?

'take one card out and try it'
'im going to try some other games'

^

Cause it it doesn't happen with other games, then it is the problem with source engine and G80 SLi itself.

And the " nv4_disp stopped responding " error, I got that after I uninstalled the 97.44 driver, used driver cleaner and installed 97.44. And that happened on AOE3.

I am going to try one card by one card now and see if it works.

As posted before, i'm sure the drivers don't support SLi for these cards yet? I could be wrong though.

Just out of curosity lolcb, why do you need 2x8800 gtx card. Unless you have a super whoping 30" TFT or something bigger.. Please tell me this is the case :D
