I am looking at booking a holiday for the girlfriend and I and are thinking about Cuba in 2011. Has anyone been there? been doing a lot of googling and it seems like a interesting place to go. Your thoughts please.

USA used to be funny if you had a cuba stamp, not sure what they are like with the new president in charge though.

My parents have been to America about 3 times since they went to Cuba 3 years ago. I don't think it's a issue now.

What price is good for a nice hotel there, not fussed about the star rating so long as its clean good food and good location

We're looking about 2.5K for the sandals resort. From what I have read their star ratings do not relate to the start ratings here so, go as high as you can with your money.

Have a look on trip advisor. Iberostar Varadero is the highest rated by visitors. Think you can go with Thompson and Thomas Cook there

A friend in the US wants to go but it's illegal for him with the US embargo.

Looks very interesting, he'd especially like to see Havana. Not sure it would be my first choice of places though

I went there in January last year, it's a nice place. We stayed in Cayo Coco and went over to the mainland for a day which is quite a different place.

Remember to bring back some decent rum and cigars

but yea, a very nice place, very hot, lots of funky wildlife that you'll notice around, just don't go expecting atv holiday brochure setting, very nice, but when you see how they live, you'll realise how much better you have it really
