Alright lads,

I'm interested to learn more about CUDA as it seems to be picking up a lot more support. I've been more involved in the Home HTPC side of things (mainly ATI) so my attention has been elsewhere heh!

So anyway I wanna get some hands on experience with Photoshop-Acceleration and Video-Transcoding and wondered if anyone knows much about this please?

I'm looking for a nVidia card that runs CUDA but also is reasonably low powered so as the budget is tight I may well hunt down a cheap 8800GT or the like . . . will this be ok?

If anyone would care to share their CUDA experiences please feel free to have a babble as I'm quite keen to know more, many thanks!

Only certain programs use CUDA for video encoding so it's not as simple as opening up VirtualDUB etc!

As for Photoshop, this doesn't need CUDA as CS4 has built in GPU acceleration for supported GFX cards and drivers \m/

I bought a Hauppauge WinTV Nova HD SD2 (with a BFG 8800GT), using it with DVBViewer and the CoreAVC codec, which supports cuda, the drivers of which are in the latest Nvidia drivers, which when set up works fine, the CoreAVC icon down at clock turns green when cuda is running...

Yup, CS4 has GPU accelleration on ATI cards too, and I expect Intel GPU also.

If you decide to grab a cheap nvidia card, Windows7 will allow you to utilise both cards, meaning you can still use your ATI card as the primary GPU, and the nVidia card as a CUDA/physx processor :)

Wow, neither did i, so i can have my 4870 and a 260 running at the same time, one for gaming and one for CUDA. hmmm, if only there was a way i could crossSLI them ;)
