Curious problem with Rampage II extreme when installing Win7

So I built my i7 a few days ago with that motherboard, all was well until I attempted to install windows; it wouldn't detect the DVD! After a little fiddling inside the case I discovered that the SATA ports wouldn't work correctly with my DVD drive (optiarc 7241). The only way I managed to fix it was to use the e-SATA port on the board, then windows installed correctly.

The drive did work fine on the standard ports once windows was installed, which is odd.

I did everything I could do in the BIOS to attempt to get the drive to boot windows from the standard SATA ports but no luck; I'm posting this here to see if any of you have ideas as to why this happened.

I'm afraid not, it's not really a problem unless I need to reinstall windows; the drive does work perfectly fine in windows. Would just be nice to know if I'm missing anything obvious, though I don't know what else I could have done.

Weird. I've got a Rampage II Extreme aswell but I've got the Optiarc 7240s. Everything was fine for me.

Have you checked that the SATA has been configured as "IDE" under Storage Configuration in the bios?
