Curious why the word 'the' get *'d out in posts?

Any reason why 'the' gets the * treatment? just noticed a lot of posts seem to have this in them, well, mine do lol...

No idea, but I always spell it back to front. At least the stars are easy to spot.

I love the fact that the swear filter is used to censor stuff that "annoys the admins" but isn't used to actually stop the "swearies" the admin are so anal about.

Always wondered that. You get absolutely jumped on by mods if you swear yet why aren't swearies in the swear filter?

The other text speak being filtered doesn't bother me, just why not the swearies aswell?
