Current accounts - no card reader?

My missus switched to Nationwide for the £200 bonus, I couldn’t believe it when a card reader came through the post. Seems such an outdated way of doing things.
However, think I’m going to switch for the £200 aswell and set up my Monzo straight away and just use that for transfers to get round the card reader.

Monzo, and HSBC are both card reader less.

This post was brought to your by Nationwides Social Media Team, did we mention the £200 bonus?…
I've literally just closed my Nationwide Bonus Saver account due to the rubbish interest rates it was providing and the fact that everything was kept in a small book. To get any money out you literally had to go to a branch or transfer on app to a current account. I rarely visit the branch so when i eventually do need to take any money out, the printing machine at the branch spends 5 minutes printing out a couple years worth of transaction on the existing and new book.

I'm with Nationwide and the card reader is a PITA. I also use TSB and that's 2FA on my phone.

I once used an RBS card reader with my Nationwide card and it worked. I wonder if all card readers use the same algorithm and if anyone's worked it out.

Yeah I switched to nationwide for the bribe.

Will be switching away at some point soon. Its rare you need a a card reader. For bank transfer to a new person you need it. Sometimes to change something like a standing order too.

Its a PITA and I will often just not bother and use our lloyds account.

But yes. They are horrible!

Pretty sure they are all cross compatible.

You generally only need the card reader for setting up a new payee, once it's setup you don't get prompted to use it and can transfer between accounts without issue.
