Hiya, I'm planning a new build and i was wondering what your thoughts are on the parts I've chosen or if you have any other recommendations to similar but overall better components.

My goal is to have a great gaming PC that will last me 3-4 years.

I've yet to find a case that 1. I like; 2. Is good, so if you have any suggestions I'm open ideas.

I will be looking to buy an ATI 7950 3Gb when they are released to complete my basket.

Thanks

It will all work together. The motherboard is good, though gigabyte and MSI do simular gen3 versions for the same (if not lower) price.

Have you got an overall budget for the whole build? Including GPU budget. The 7950 will be pretty pricey.

Case wise: the ones that stand out to me are the Fractal R3, Silvertstone Raven 2 and the Corsair obsidian 650D.

The i5 2500k will fulfil your needs and do you Really need 16GB of RAM You will only notice it when doign HEAVY 3D CAD work or HEAVY video encoding.

I think the motherboard he has chosen will be great, mainly to compliment the Black theme.

It is, i agree. It looks great and from reviews i have read works well too.

I was just pointing out that there are other Gen3 compatible board, though the they have it in their title.

As for my budget well I'm looking to spend about £1400 max on the whole thing. I'll shop around as I'm sure some parts are cheaper else where.

Regarding the 16Gb of RAM, well I don't see why not to go all out when I want a system that will last me and it really isn't that expensive atm.

I really haven't 100% decided upon the 2600k as I know the 2500k is pretty similar but in my head I see the 2600k lasting longer? Is that a weird way to look at it? :P

My guess is that it'll only be worth it when games start to take advantage of Hyper Threading, which is really the main difference between the 2500k and the 2600k. But even then, the 2500k is still a killer CPU, with that watercooler you'll be able to reach pretty high clocks, and I don't really see a game ever stressing it so much that it becomes a bottleneck any time soon.

Plus it's cheaper, freeing up the budget a bit.

As for the RAM, personally I don't see the point of buying ~£100 worth of RAM when you can get 8Gb, which is pretty much overkill anyway, for less than £40. Your choice though.

I don't think any new games will be using the hyper threading of the i7 because the current gen consoles will still be around for another few years.

I'm looking more towards the 2500k now to save me some cash. Is there much difference in the Crucial RealSSD M4 or the Force Series 3?

would say couple of things can be changed

psu:

little more expensive but better than the lepa, not all the lepas are made by enermax unless I'm mistaken.

ram:

madtoday if you're after 16gb then 2x the kit linked above or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-112-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

both come in £20 cheaper than 16gb the kit you've chosen

I personally wouldn't change anything in your original spec if it was for me. Perhaps the Corsair SSD for the Crucial M4, although that's a personal thing. I know it doesn't match the PSU :(

Case wise. Hard to beat the 600t white :D Makes a nice Corsair build!

2600K... well, if you can afford it. Why not! Who says you need to buy the bear minimum. If you want the best and want to splash out, go for it. I'm sure it'll come in handy one day and if you do anything other than gaming, then it'll be good for that too.

Well I have actually found:

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory £70.99

@Buchanan0204 The 600t in black is one if the cases I have looked at, its pretty sexy.

if you are gaming you should look into the whole RAM capacity vs performance thing... some say that the more RAM capacity you have the slower the RAM performs... most games will not utilise 16GB of RAM, not even 8GB of RAM and you can actually get better performance from 4GB of RAM

I wouldnt run 4GB myself.. but Id probably go for 8GB over 16GB for performance reasons
