Current Computer Project

After reading your comment I double checked the price and I agree that's insane to spend. I'm hoping to find the processor cheaper than that. I may be able to find it in a used computer at a thrift store or just wait till it becomes cheaper. I got my processor which was the core i7 2620m for 30 USD. It just had bent prongs I fixed with a card. I honestly think it would work and I probably should upgrade my rig but I just find it fun to see how far I can take it. My games run pretty good but I also do penatration testing with my laptop as well... as a hobby. I program too for fun. That pic with my screen on my laptop i use that to navigate through my laptop. Explorer.exe I replaced with a .bat I made so I can navigate with my num pad. I always wanted a laptop when I was younger so it's also very sentimental to use this laptop. It's the first decent laptop I've ever owned.

What I'm trying to say is based off my current processor I know it won't read 1600 mhz fully on the new RAM I plan to get but if I somehow get this processor then it might based on what I've found on the specs. If I also upgrade the processor it will give it HD 4000 integrated graphics on my laptop not HD 3000 like I have now. I've also tried to find specs on my motherboard and it doesn't say how much mhz it can use... So I'm guessing it's the processor specs I should go by.

And according to this site the Intel Core i7 2620m has integrated graphics in the processor itself:

I'm hoping with the new processor and RAM and if I can do it under $100 USD would be nice. I know I'm being optimistic but I'm hoping for at least a 25% to 30% increase in response time on my laptop. With new graphics and a slightly higher ghz in processing power I think it's doable.

my motherboard comes up as JE50_HR on my Acer Aspire 5750z

Thank you Sliver :-). I'm glad I posted. Normally I keep my projects to myself because no one around me where I live is "tech" literate... so to explain what I do for fun they don't honestly get it.

That's great, what you're doing. Have you tried Linux yet? Linux Mint is a good place to start (preferably in a virtual machine, as you're not going to mess up your Windows installation), as it's a lot more hands-on and there's a decent amount of work at the CLI, although Kali Linux would be great for penetration testing.

Judging by a couple of posts in this thread, it doesn't sound like 1600MHz RAM is supported on your motherboard. (The model isn't exactly the same, but as the motherboard is, I'm assuming it's the same case with your laptop too.) Sorry to disappoint, if that's true.

However, if you still decide to go ahead with the processor upgrade anyway, then good luck with that. Yes, there would be a ~30% processor improvement and ~60% graphics improvement, but then again, with a new desktop ($260 for the CPU on a popular online retailer - still half the price of the 3840QM), you could double and quadruple those figures, respectively... although with a graphics card, you could go from +300% to +3,000%, and with GPGPU, you could make the most of that in your pentesting exploits (ha). ;)

I use Kali Linux actually lol. It's a fun thing to tinker with. I checked your link and I'm gonna try to see what processor it has on his by trying to contact him. However, the 1600mhz I want still has the same voltage (1.5) and I need to see if they are going by the processor which is why the specs say it can only read 1333mhz. I'm definitely keeping note of that for the desktop :). I REALLY want to try and make this for testing my network eventually:

I'm probably not as much of a gamer as everyone on here but I love the overclocking aspects of hardware.

Just a current update for this OP I joined the Acer community and I'm trying to contact the person who posted the thread provided to me by Malamo999:

hopefully I will hear from him soon and I can finish what I started here lol. I looked for the processor I wanted to use and sadly the processor is too expensive for me to do :(. Even if I found a used laptop and salvage it for the laptop itself is roughly 2 to 3,000 USD and I'd be better off upgrading that laptop... It supports much more ram and lighter weight. If I find the processor cheap I'll go for it but right now I'm at a stand still.

Here is something I found though I've been considering trying though:

It's a cooling mod for a laptop... issue is every pump I see are kind of big. I would like one smaller and portable otherwise what's the point of doing all of this with a laptop? I want portability.

right now nothing new on the processor. Still looking for something cheap. Havent finoshed the airflow mod either. Been pretty busy lately. Also been tinkering with my bat OS on my free time. I had a question for anyone willing to answer this... has anyone made it possible to switch a battery supply off with a switch? I mean taking it out and running it on just the power cord is something I've been doing lately because my battery is draining fast. I need to get a new battery but i want to find a way to switch it off somehow with maybe modding the battery connect so i dont have to pull the battery out. Anyone have any ideas for this?
