Current go to 1070

I'm edging toward the Zotac Amp Extreme, it's the closest in performance to a F/E 1080 with a little headroom for further overclocking thanks to its huge cooler, and as already said, the 5 year warranty.

TBH the AMP is probably just as good, I've read most 1070's won't overclock much more than the Extreme anyway, my thinking is if I'm paying £400 or so for a card I may as well pay a little more if I can max its performance out if the box.

id go for a asus strix or a zotac.

i went for asus strix because of features build quality.zotac for the 5 year warranty.with ocuk.

I have the Zotac AMP Extreme 1070, nice card, build quality is second to none. Performance is good out of the box, i have not fiddled with the OC on mine as there is absolutely no need to.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look.

Do you think the 1070/80 will have a drop in price when the 1080Ti comes out or will they stay roughly the same?

I'm looking to replace my 970 for better VR performance.

I myself would also go for the Zotac if I was getting a card today....they were out of stock when I wanted one and I didnt wait :(

I did have a the G1 1070...but had to RMA it due to vibration issues .

would stay the same in theory as plenty of space to fit it between the 1080 and Titan.

Question is will it drop then the Vega hits and then RX500 afterwards.
feeling is the 1070 will stay as it is .

That's what I was thinking, just hoping I guess haha. Although Vega could be a choice, maybe?

I nearly bought the AMP Extreme last night. Before I hit the buy button I fired up BF1 and Titanfall 2 to see if I really needed it and tbh I didn't.

Now, I was meant to buy a 1070 in June/July and had posted about it here but I was so busy with work that I had no time for gaming so I left it. I think (personally) that the product has been out for 6 months now, there's new cards on the horyzen (sorry) so I feel it's the wrong time to buy right now even though I've got a little more time to myself. If my 290X wasn't doing what I wanted it to do then I'd be awaiting the arrival of the Zotac card but I think I can hold off for now, keep the money sitting there and buy either the new Vega around release or see what Nvidia do with the pricing if Vega is as good as we hoped. If I buy today then I'd probably sell the 1070 not long before the release of the new cards and it's something I can't really be bothered with.

So, boring wait it is for me. :)

+1 for the Zotac. I upgraded from a 970 to an Amp Extreme 1070 for VR and I think it was well worth it. Beware it is a very big card though.

I sold my old GTX 970 on an auction site for £150 so it was about £300 to upgrade.

Performance wise looking at benchmarks it seems to be about 60% better.

I could wait, my 970 is doing okay in VR - although I think I'd be upset if I waited and nothing came of it... Argh!

:D

I feel you, I've been having to talk myself out of getting one for the last two weeks. After firing up BF1 and TF2 last night though made it a hard choice. You could always buy now, keep an eye on the market and sell up to get as much back as possible for the next cards or just enjoy the 1070.

It's possible that AMD might only match the 10 series Nvidia cards which (1070 and higher) might cause a price war and you also have the 1080Ti coming at some point. In that regard you might save a few quid for waiting but is that money worth it to wait a few months?. Tricky situation.

Oh just shut up you :D. You're getting me thinking again  :D. Glad you're enjoying the upgrade.

I recently upgraded to an Asus Strix 1070 OC from a GTX 980 and I'm really pleased with it.

Out of interest what do you think the 980's resale value would be now? It's OCUK's own reference design 980.
