What's with the current trend here of posting the most awful, depressing news stories you can all find?

What's the purpose? It's a sad, sick world we live in...but not all the time. Try posting nice/fun/entertaining stuff.

Bad news has often been posted and discussed here. Its not a 'current' trend, its just something that happens.

One too many is all, just seems every time i come to GD there's another disturbing/disgusting news story posted and all it seems to do is depress.

I don't get it either. I've read newspapers for the last 15 years so I don't really need to ask anyone else what the world is coming to.

We love feeling sorry for victims almost as much as we enjoy pouring scorn on those that have right royally ****ed up.

Far from it, although it's certainly heading that way..just don't understand the need to copy/paste links to news stories about the worst stuff that goes on.

It's because certain posters (naming no names) seem to think that if they post a link to a news story it will spark intelligent debate, which in turn will make themselves look good for starting it.

omg, I was JUST watching that while I read it!

on topic, I don't read these news threads anymore unless they are interesting (ie funny etc) as I hear too much about the depressing parts of the world during the day as it is.
