Currys Knowhow = Useless

Think the most annoying thing is having to call them for a refund! It should be automatic. Currys refused to connect a washing machine because the stop valve was seized (hard water area). I had to call to get a refund and the local plumber who did it for me (as I was away) stated he didn't know what the problem was - it wasn't that difficult to turn off the valve.

I've been to a fair few installs after currys have refused to do the job, Bunch of monkies tbh. I'm taking it your new oven has a plug head? And the electrician you called just swapped over the cooker outlet for a socket? Won't cause any problems tbh. At least you know in future to not bother and just arrange local trades to install.

The new cooker came with no cord at all - it had to be hard wired to a section of cable which was then connected to the wall. I have since taken a second opinion from another electrician who's advice was basically the same - ideally the 30 amp supply should come through a 13 amp fused box, but if that's not present he would have done exactly the same and connected it direct. (He has offered to come round and put a 13 amp socket on if we want the peace of mind). At best, it seems Currys are exaggerating the potential risk of direct wiring.

It seems to me they want £100 for basically unpacking and plugging it in!

Slight bump. Currys now stonewalling about refunding the £100 for the non-installation of the hob. Several emails have gone unanswered, not helped I guess by each time you chase them up a new reference is generated. Fired off a written complaint on Monday so waiting to see if that gets a response. Not confident as the given address is a PO Box number.

I'm guessing there's no ombudsman for dealing with these guys so the next step is either Small Claims Court, or writing the money off (which I'm loathe to do).

Did you actually expect them to hire competent people?

Anyone who knows what they're doing isn't working for currys for £10 an hour, they're self employed bagging £150+ a day.

All somewhere like curries will do is hire some tosher, give them a gas safe cert on a 1 day course and pay them to do what any half competent DIYer could.

£190 to swap an oven an hob is just ridiculous, did you not question that?

i'd be amazed if you can get a gas safe cert in a day, mine was 3 weeks and a full week every five years.

to op did you pay by card, visa may be able to help

They do tend to be quite well informed about the products they sell though.

From personal experience I disagree.
A friend of a friend (This friend of a friend being an Apple fanboy, with less knowledge than me in Apple hardware, let alone Google hardware) was working as the android guy in PC World (Why he's able to get a job like that while I can't is beyond me), but he's only gone and become the apple tech guy as well! He was adamant that the iPad Mini 1 was an iPad 3 shrank spec wise (When it's more akin to the 2 shrank)

Our local Currys a couple of years ago (maybe longer) had a 42" TV on display showing the difference between a cheap & expensive HDMI lead and there was a huge difference.
I called the assistant over who carried on with the BS and then I asked why the poor quality picture was connected from the DVD to the TV with a SCART lead :D

Deliberately misleading the public? Great business ethos. Another reason why Currys never get any of my money.

A random customr was so fed up with the (huge) company I work for, they fired off emails to the directors and everyone which got the entire place shook up trying to resolve this small issue for them straight away.

Mr Sebastian James Chief Executive / Email [email protected]

Couldn't hurt :D

Afaik, a wire rated at 30 amps can carry 30 amps before it starts to melt, and an appliance only draws what it needs. So, what on earth is the problem of running a 13 amp oven on a 30 amp wire? Surely, its twice as safe :p If its just a fuse tripping safety issue, all it needs is a 13amp fuse at the plug :/
