That seems very old stock for such a major retailer. They’re also selling for the same price as I paid in Jan 2019!

I know Covid has hit all industries, but could it really be case of Curry’s buying up Samsung’s old stock to sell due to a huge rise in demand (lockdown), and insufficient production of 2020/21 models?

What else could it be?

Do you think the general public will know which model they are buying? The target audience who shop at currys are generally your normal boys and girls off the street who wouldn't know the difference between the models and as long as they see something big and bright they would be interested in it.

Sorry but that doesn’t answer the question of why a major retailer is still selling 2 year old models.

Because they still have them left. Why would they not.
They stopped selling them from last summer and started again around Xmas time. It just seems like they’ve bought a load more stock as they’re advertising them on tv as well. It’s not like just a few units here and there.

That’s my guess anyway, not enough tv’s can be made to satisfy demand atm, so old stock is being rolled out. Bit like Nvidia resurrecting 20 series graphics cards.

That's strange, when the 2020 models came out I drove around a few Curry's trying to get hold of one of the 2019 models as they were better value for money compared to the newer models that had very little in terms of improvement. None of the 5-6 stores that I visited had any of them left in stock. In the end had to buy a 2020 model direct from Samsung with the student discount.
Same TV gone down by £600 now :O
I have learnt my lesson though, don't buy a new TV shortly after a new model comes out!

What specific models are we talking about here?

I'm not surprised TBH. When I worked in electrical retail 20 years ago, the boss often used to buy job lots of end of line stuff from wholesalers or suppliers. In my experience back then, most of Joe public didn't care as long as it was still in its box & it was cheap. I had one or two that cared about specs & features but those type of people walked in the door once in a blue moon.

One of my friends who works for a high street retailer was saying they had an advisory because someone was buying up a certain model of TV in bulk and sticking it on ebay at twice the price - for some reason these high street chains don't like scalping (not that anyone should) - I guess it causes more issues for them when stuff goes wrong and/or customer goodwill in general.

What model?

There is no TV that you could realistically buy and then flip for twice the price as there is too much competition to do so.

Model wasn't mentioned I'm assuming it is one that is in high demand and short supply and someone was trying to corner all the supply - apparently offering incentives to staff to put them aside for them, etc.
