Are they a gimmick, if not what benefits does having a curved monitor over a flat one give you ?

Is curved good for watching movies on a monitor, are they ok for general internet use, i presume it would be very good for gaming to give a better depth of field.

I can't imagine they do you any favours if you're actually trying to work on one... not sure I could cope with curvy straight lines :S

Not against ultra widescreen, but I think the curved ones have a very niche purpose.

I can't really say what the curve adds. I'm on the XR34 and for the most part I don't notice it - which is probably the point? It's just a comfortable viewing experience, I'm not sure how being flat would affect it either... So basically -- no clue :D

I use my X34 for both gaming and working (Excel mainly) and don't even notice the curve which I suppose is the point after all.

I personally dont notice the face its curved until i stand up lol. The widescreen that comes with the X34 is awesome. Going back to a "normal" aspect ratio would be tough!

As a TV in your living room, hell no, ridiculous. As a monitor in a room where you and only you are gaming or watching on your own at the right viewpoint then sure if thats what you're into. Personally it looks stupid though.

I went to a showroom today and they had 1 behind the counter and I was allowed behind to get in front of it. It was 27" inch and a, Dell iirc and £800ish quid. I'm assuming it was an IPS panel too. In that brief time I couldn't forsee any problems with using one.

Curved for me - I tried the 34'' flat but found that it did not 'feel' right, peripheral vision was what was affected . I found that I was catching glimpses/movementsout of the corner of my eyes which was disconcerting.
Curved does not cause the same problem - feels natural and I do like the bigger screen.(dell 34")

I've used a couple of curved screens and find they're far less of a gimmick than the TV's since you're sitting closer. But can't get over the fact it just doesn't look right and is still a gimmick.
Desktop use is frankly horrible IMO, but with games it adds the peripheral content well, so long as it's a very large screen that's close to you.

The thing is you're so used to flat panels that it's very hard to get used to curved. It's kinda like movies playing at more than 25fps. It just seems strange.

Had absolutely no problems going from flat - 32" to curved 34". A much better gaming experience, I perceive the edge areas of the screen to be closer and it's a little more immersive. Day to day use no problems either.

I had no trouble adjusting to a curved screen. In fact I stopped noticing that it was curved about 5 minutes after I started using it. I don't think its just a gimmick either at 34" ultra wide. On a smaller monitor maybe, but at 34" it produces this subtle wrap-around peripheral immersion thingy and it feels pretty epic tbh.

I loved curved for gaming. But for anything else like surfing I didn't like it. It was like having 2 x 4:3 27 inch monitors..

For editing etc...2 Screen wins over IMO.

But gaming is cool...

I now have a 32" 1440p BenQ monitor having had Dell34U15W and Dell TN gsync.

I'm loving the pixel pinch of the BenQ..It make surfing and office use great...Video Editing is great and all around I have found a monitor I'm impressed with...Deep Blacks 10BIt panel and damn ok looking for games...Its not the fastest panel but it looks OK to me...Much nicer looking than the Dell Gysync in terms of colour and Zero BLB unlike the Dell U34

I've been through 3 monitors in the last month and the BenQ is the only panel that oozes quality and is worth the cost imo.

Every Monitor is a compromise...And having a decent all rounder was way more important for me...

I have a 980 ti and getting a solid 60FPS in games @ 1440p is fine for me...Little tearing and no ghosting has far as I can see.

On 34 inchers like the X34, the curve is extremely subtle and doesn't interfere with desktop use for me. I guess my eyes kind of auto correct any perceived distortion - I don't notice straight lines as being bent or anything.

The Acer Z35 has a much more aggressive curve however I do wonder how the desktop experience is on that. For all around use and not just gaming, I'm not sure I'd want a deeper curve, the X34 seems to hit the right balance
