Are far superior to their jammy cousins. In this order:

1) Sainsburys - Good dough, smooth silky filling, good sugary coating
2) Morrisons - Good dought, smooth sillky filling (wins the 'tastes the most custardy' award), fine sugar coating
2) Asda - Good dough, course lumpy filling, good sugary coating
3) Tesco - Bad dough, bad filling, bad sugary coating

I live literary 5 mins walk from a really good independent bakers. Twice a week every week I get 2 loaves (one white, one brown) a few oven bottom muffins and the BEST custard doughnut I have ever tasted.

They are an abomination!!!!

Proper custard is superb.
Egg custards are superb.
Custard doughnuts clearly do not contain custard!!!!!

Please excuse me, I must now go vomit :P

I like to microwave custard donuts for about 10 seconds, just so the custard centre is warm and runny:D

Krispy Kreme custard doughnuts with chocolate coating are lovely.

Up Bluewater you can watch the machine churning them out. They call it the 'Doughnut Theatre' They come out superfast. I think about money a lot, so I just stand watching them thinking "£1, £2, £3, £4, £5, £6........."

It's not so much a doughnut machine as more a money printer.

I get that feeling when I'm standing in the supermarket at 12 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, hearning all the *bong, bong, bong*s and having my mind boggle at the volume of turnover in just one store.

At festivals, I always take a few cans of custard and go and buy the doughnuts from the vans. Heat the custard up, dunk the doghnuts in and gobble it all up. Great way to start the day!
