I`m looking at building my own case but no previous experience. Over the next couple of weeks, time permitting, with the aid of Googlesketch, i hope to design the case i want. Any and all help will be most welcome. Anybody on here actually built their own case? If so, got any advice?

Forget first post, tried using Googlesketch, took me 3hrs just to draw the outline.
Found an old case in the cupboard (had an old Asrock mobo with Amd Athlon socket 402) and stripped it back to chassis. So have decided instead to modify it. Had a word with the old guy at the repair shop down the road. I give him 3 old psu`s and i can salvage anything i need from all of his discarded cases.
Old case measures: H 14.5"x L 15.5"x W 9.5". What i intend to do is raise the height and widen it a few inches. So, armed with my dremel, solder and rivet guns, i`m going to chop it in half and add in the extra few inches.
Let you know how i get on, alter.

Do you mean Sketchup? It's probably the most intuitive 3D design application out there. Find some tutorials if you're confused by some of the features, it's really easy to pick up the basics.

I've played around with a few custom case designs but each time I've run into either practical or aesthetic problems. I'll do it eventually, it might just take a while to satisfy my perfectionism. :p

Yea, Sketchup, my mistake. Google have loads of video tutorials. I will keep practicing with simple things until i get the hang of it or unless i can find someone who`s good at it, to show me. Always find most tutorials are based on the the premise that you already have some understanding.

99% of the time the only tools I use are line, curve, extrude, and erase, at least in the early stages of something. It's a great bit of software for preliminary designs. There's a learning curve for the trickier features but it does most things pretty well once you figure out how. 3D curves are a bit of a weak spot, though, so for complex curvey designs it's often better to look elsewhere.

i am also looking to custom build my own case but have it made by proffesionals, if price is not a major issue you should have a look at the site i am going to use. i have already emailed their customer service about a few of my ideas which i thaught wouldn't be possible or the company wouldn't be willing to make it (as most places don't these days) but this is not the case. they took my budget into consideration even though it is still pricey and are willing to make the case to my exact specifications.
hope this helps you out in some way......
