Evening all,

New build on the horizon, but I want to do full custom cabling this time round, never attempted it, no idea how it will go. But I want everything, EVERYTHING sleeved black and neat. So, I guess the first question is are there any dedicated sites to use to get the kit? Such as all the connectors, sleeving etc.

Also, what gauge cable do people use? Silicon cable? Different gauges for different jobs I assume.

Need to start ordering bits and bobs pretty soon, properly excited!

Hi Agnes, were you planning on making the cables up yourself and sleeving them all from scratch ? If you are then I advice you to use Paracord as sleeving and not the nylon/PVC sleeving. The Paracord is softer, gives a lot better finish and works out cheaper as well. Pins and Cable, I got mine from RS online but Overclockers has quite an extensive range of cable modding gear.

I have just finishes a 570X build with cable modding.. I researched for weeks, if your just doing it for enjoyment then crack on, if you just want to get your PC looking its best and up and running asap. I recommend these people Cablemod.com/configurator/. Top spec gear, I have some of there stuff, its good and measurements are spot on. It may seem a little expensive but to do your own cabling for 1 PC you need the proper tools and materials and that works out very expensive :)

Youtube has bundles of info on cable modding ..

Awesome! Thanks, very helpful response.

I intend on taking a long time with this build, around 10 years ago I was heavily into the WC scene, moderated on a popular WC forum based in the UK. My last PC build was a mini ATX in a small Lian li, air cooled, nothing custom, just neat and it's been going strong for the last 5 years with only the GPU being upgraded!

As for the extent of cable modding, I will be going entirely custom, so length to the exact size, heatshrinking the crimps and connectors, custom sleething. The works.

Good tip on the paracording! I'll certainly look into that. I think I may just buy a few spools, each of varying gauges.

Your welcome...but just go and have a little peek at the cablemod.com/configuator. It will blow your mind, I guarantee you :) You can even pick out each individual cable and have it a different colour

Will do, but I think it will just spit out generic length cables and notch have what I would be able to achieve doing it on my own right? That's what I'm aiming for, as little cabling as possible.
