Just wondering if anyone's tried cutting a hole in the top of their case roughly between their PSU and the 5 1/4 bays and stuck a fan in to see if you can suck some more air out of the case or blow in for that matter. Think it would make any difference?
Have a look at the Pic below, and yes i know its a bit of a mess!! but then you don't see in my case where i have it.

Blowholes are fairly common, the PC7+ for example comes with one drilled as stock.

If your experiencing heat issues, especially with multiple graphics and hard drives they can work wonders, depends on the system entirely to what use they are.

I did see a budget make case on another site that has a 10inch fan on the side of the case, dunno how fast it spins or what kinda noise it makes but i'm guessing as long as there's sufficient exhausts to blow the air out again it should be one very efficient way of cooling everything!

Not really.

The best cooling solution for the majority of computers is the basic in at the front, out at the back system.

Tried, tested, best results when done well.

SLI can benefirt from a side blowhole, and a packed case can benefit from a top exhuast aswell, just depends on the case and rig.

Typically your looking at some serious hardware before you need it, most systems are not even half way to the limit of in and out cooling.

If you were to increase the front fan to a 120mm one and space the hard drives apart so the bottom one was in the 2nd lowest position and the top one was in the highest position you'd gain more inlet airflow into the case and still cool the HDDs effectively.

Also flattening the ribbon cables against the case far side / HDD rack will reduce the blockage/turbulence of airflow from front to rear.

I have 2x80mm fans between my psu and 5 1/4 bays :)

they are both running at half voltage to keep the noise down and are adjustable :) seem to get rid of some of the hot air in the top of the case.

All depends on how efficiant your case cooling is already, i put a 120mm in one case and cpu temps dropped 8C, did the same to another case and case tmps remained the same. Again depending on case/fan layout and hardware inside, 120mm holes can be more effective when blowing cool air into the case although the only way to test is to try different variations and see whats best

Loads of cases have them and it is a fairly common mod, but in your case where there isnt that much in there I would just replace the front fan with a 120mm. Should improve cooling a little and be quieter. I would also tidy the cables up a little.

Also why hasnt the bottom HD got a molex plugged in?
