Custom Computer desk with built-in hardware

Liking the ideas. You could try rubber sheet for the desk surface. May be sensible to try a couple of samples first. Incidentally, I went for blackboard vinyl on mine - came out very nicely. Maybe worth a try. Fwiw, here's a pic of my customised desk which has been skinned with it:

For cable management, or concealing the cables, a vanity board would help with this. I've managed to conceal and organize my cables that way.

Will be trying plastidip myself at some point.

Looking forward to seeing this develop.

Edit: you could also use neutrik USB adapters to keep things tidy.

That's a pretty sweet set up

The OP has already said that he frequently transports his PC to other places, so clearly building the PC into the desk itself is not going to work for him. Time to stop suggesting it..?

UPDATES AND PROGRESS!

I decided to begin with an existing desk, since creating one from scratch was proving to be hard work, with sourcing materials etc..

So when in search for the desk I found this:

Using the idea of vinyl wrap from thereisonlyone, I decided to find a similar version; luckily i found a 1700 x 1000 length of Matt black wrap on Amazon for around 10GBP.

Having little knowledge in wrapping in vinyl a friend offered to give me a hand, and good job too; keeping it from bubbling was quite a task where the vinyl was one long continuous sheet.

After about an hours work we were left with this; a wrapped worktop.

The desk is however not complete yet. I still plan to continue with previous ideas, such as the controller, USB hub etc.. These will be photo'ed and uploaded as and when they are being installed. I'll try to give more detailed images of the object actually being installed next time!!

Thanks,
