Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this so please move it if I've chosen badly.

I know I've been expecting to lose the box room which I've been using as a man cave for some time, during that time I've been wondering where to put my PC, I've considered HTPC builds which would prevent the Mrs from watching TV and seriously limit any gaming opportunities, or desk on the landing or in the dining room which wouldn't be practical, and then I realised.

What if I had one of the wardrobes ripped out, had power and network fed down from the loft and fitted a desk in there.

The first port of call was the electrician, luckily we had an old power shower ripped out and the cable lay dormant in the loft, this was utilised to power a socket in the wardrobe and an outdoor grade network cable was fed up the outside wall, into the loft and back down to the power socket location.

I started to take out the wardrobe and met some challenges, the internal shelving was screwed in from the opposite sides and I wasn't confident in doing it without making a complete mess, I also could not find a desk that was a suitable width and depth so I knew I had to get a joiner in, luckily I found someone locally who specialises in bedrooms, I didnt take a before pic with shelves in but here is one after the rip out was completed -

I painted the top and sides to match the rest of the wardrobes and the carpet was then added, I had some left over from when it was fitted last year -

Then the install inc cable tidy on the left from top to bottom to hide the cables and also a cable tray and cut out at the back for management -

My PC isnt in yet, thats happening at the end of the month, its still in the box room right now, I'll update once fitted.

I thought some of you might appreciate seeing a relatively unusual desk location so thought I would post it up, even the Mrs is happy with it though it doesnt have a massive chair, desktop and monitor installed yet!

Cheers

Nice little transformation that and use of space! Once the chair is tucked in underneath it will be very tidy! Stick a tidy tray under that desk so there is no hanging cables and try put power through the rest of the wardrobe if you can so it's all hidden.

Is that the Sennheiser DAC? How do you find it? :)

I tihnk personally, I would wall mount the monitor with an Ergotron LX wall mount arm, then hide the cables :)

The GSX is one of my favourite ever purchases it genuinely is a great bit of kit I'm still amazed by how it does what it does to a stereo headset

I didn't want a wall mount because the wall you see there is wood and I was concerned about drilling holes but maybe next time I'm happy for now

That's a beautiful clean set up.

Ive purchased my first house with my girlfriend. She's dreading my set up but if I could emulate something like this I think she'd be happy.

Well done you.

Thanks, it's in the main bedroom as I lost my mancave to my second son so it had to blend in as much as possible

I want a TKL keyboard with white caps but they are all too loud

Good luck with the house, my setup was last o didn't game for nearly a year due to doing up my house
