Custom DNS Servers

Contrary to sparkymark75 I found Virgin's DNS servers at the route of most of my internet problems when I used them,

Was this delicious pun intentional? lol OP try GRC's DNS bench test (or a similar one). It gives some useful advice and takes into account reliability as well as outright speed. It also gives recommendations based on your own particular setup (in the conclusions tab). I have steered away from ISP DNS for years. They hijack your traffic, keep logs and often redirect in undesirable ways. They can also be used to censor.

Been noticing that video streams on the web don't seem to load very fast. Didn't think it could be related to the fact I use google DNS as my DNS. However... I switched to Open DNS and the same videos which used to hitch and take ages to buffer are much faster now.

Still don't see how DNS could be the cause of it unless the Google DNS was sending me to non geographically close CDN's and the open DNS servers are locating me in the UK more accurately considering they have servers in the UK.

That's all I can think off.

whats the situation with privacy with Open DNS? And now they are owned by CISCO might this go paid for only in the future?
