Custom IEM's - Cosmic Ears

I don't need that kind of computing power so my 4770K and 16GB of DDR3 go well with my new GTX970, though I am on the lookout for a new hard drive for storage, my current 6TB doesn't seem to be enough. :o

As for audio, I think I'm done for a while as I'm happy with my full size headphones and the Fidue A73 will go into rotation with my RHA MA750s, Rock Jaws and Havi B3 Pro 1s.

I was looking at the HE-400i and the 400s but UK prices are obscene, so I bought into the IEM scene where you can get insane sound quality without spending a fortune - though you can still spend a fortune if you want to of course. :D

upgraded from 3770k hoping it will be for the next 3-4 years but i work for overclockers so who knows.

iem's not my thing plus i'd be eternally worried about losing/breaking them. I can sit for hours with the phillips on can use most iem's for about 20 mins

To be fair, if I worked for OcUK I would have an incredibly badass PC too, I'd be totally unable to resist. :D

As for IEMs, I felt the same for years, eventually got a pair of Sony MDR XB30EX IEMs which didn't change my mind and stuck with those for a couple of years. I bought a pair of Havi B3 Pro 1's about six months ago for £34 and they did the trick. It was like listening to my AKG K702s for a tiny fraction of the price.
I then went for the Rock Jaw Alfa Genus IEMs (£50) which have changeable filters to enable you to change the sound to your tastes and after some fiddling I got those to sound really nice too.
Lastly I went for the RHA MA750 (£80) which sound more like my Sennheiser HD 650s, glorious mids with great bass to back it up. I can (and do) wear these for hours on end with no discomfort even though they are made out of stainless steel, so are quite heavy. They can only be worn with the cable going over the ear though and that, I have found makes wearing IEMs so much more comfortable as all of the weight of the earphone and the cable is borne by the outside of your ear rather than the canal.

I'm thinking about getting either some Cosmic Ears or some Custom Art CIEMs. Good to read that you've had great service from Cosmic Ears.

cheers will have a look man.

Thanks for the write up Supa Koopa, very interesting. I'm trying to decide whether to have my Shure SE535 reshelled with a custom mould since I broke a nozzle, replace the broken ear piece with a new one, buy a custom iem like the CE6P or go for the Shure SE846.

Nice to hear a story about good customer service for a change :) Cosmic Ears would definitely be my first choice if I was after CIEMs but I have other things to invest in before a pair.

cost has always put me off

I really want to like iem's but i don't no matter what i try they annoy me after a while I'm sure customs are the solution to that but spending that sort of money to find out :/

Anyway nice write up :) let us know how you get on with them in the coming months.

I think CE offer a pre-fit service where they send you your impressions with no drivers, to check the fit? Might be worth looking into before spending £££.

That is correct they do offer a pre fit service which is a really good idea. Although, they will adjust the fit as well after you receive them if you're not happy/comfortable or there isn't a perfect seal. Mine seem to be fine and I haven't needed to send them back.

To be honest the 4 driver version sounded very good too and that is a fair bit cheaper. The new 5 driver is supposed to have a very good sound signature and one reviewer (when the review is finished) has said it probably has the best sound signature of the whole range.

jkb - difficult to say which would be the best route as I've not heard the high end Shure's. They should be able to do a reshell no problem if you're happy with the sound of your SE535's though. Email Phil at Cosmic Ears and he would be able to offer some advice or arrange a visit to have a listen to the CE6P's. Or you could get a demo set to try. It looks expensive as you have to front a lot of cash to get them but as far as I know it's all returned when they receive the units back (just to make sure they get them back I suppose). :)

hey koopa how you getting on with these 1 year on?

Seriously considering a pair of the CEI 3 or 2 going to take a trip up there. in august i think.
