Hi,

Its possible to buy copper pipes (eg 3mm heat pipes, or various fanned heatsinks). Has anyone got experience of playing about with these in a hobby build?

E.g. artic silver adhesive + pipes \ heatsinks etc on inside of case, or pipes going from heatsink to side fan, or pipe branching from hot air above cpu fan to side fan etc?

Would be interested to know if there was any impact on temps, such as few degrees. I want to hobby build in as small a case as possible and have fun testing.

Thank you

There are a few cases that use this concept - heatpipes to connect the chassis itself to the CPU or GPU. Entire case as a passive heatsink. I THINK Streacom make one. There are a few brands specialising in it but they're pretty expensive.

But yes - it's doable. Heatpipes and the clamp fittings looked pretty expensive, expensive enough I'd do a lot of planning to make sure it's what I wanted, before making a purchase.

A little research should bring some interesting results, try "passive heatpipe cooled case" as a search term :)

Thanks for your reply!

Yes ive seen those kinds of cases, wouldnt trust a pc without a fan though!

Im more thinking of, "this case supports 50w cpu, im putting in 100w" and have some fun without getting out a dremel and doing a homer simpson!
