Been running my nexus 5 fine, simply rooted but otherwise stock. However, I want to get cerberus properly installed so it persists through factory resets, which means I need a custom recovery thing installed.

From reading up, it seems that Cwm is the best option, but do they also block the ota updates for Android? And if so, what do I have to do to install the latest version of Android on them when an update is released?
Thanks!

A custom ROM will block OTA updates of the stock ROM but basically the flexibility you get is that whenever there is an update you can download it from someone on XDA and flash it directly from the recovery meaning you don't have to wait for an OTA.

It's always, almost without exception much faster downloading and flashing the file yourself than waiting for an OTA.

tbh i'd go with TWRP, i prefer its interface.

yup, OTAs are blocked, but as said download/flash yourself, or just go custom rom and never have to bother with them at all :p

I'm not too interested in changing the actual rom itself. I can use my phone to text and call people, and it runs apps. So it's basically a case of 'if it ain't broke' to be honest!
And if it's that easy to update anyway then that's not so bad. I assume I will still need to re-root after updates?

Edit: will I need to add cerberus to the rom again each time there's an android update?

you shouldn't need to re-root, no. only if you factory reset, which if you're on custom recovery i wouldn't tbh

as for cerberus, install it, root, convert it to a system app and it *should* stay there.
