Hi all,

I want to buy an iMac 27" with the i7, but I'd much prefer to buy it in the shop.

Can I order and pay for it in an Apple store?

Thanks!

I'd have thought so.

Why bother answering questions if you don't know the answer?
It's like if someone asked if the 13" MBP has a matte screen and I answered: 'I'd have thought so.'. How does that help anyone?

A better answer would've been 'phone the shop' or 'visit the shop' and not what you think it'd be.
Does the 13" MBP have a Firewire 800 port? I'd have thought so.

I'd have to disagree with Feek - I've never heard of Apple offering that service. Some of the Apple retail outlets stock the i7 though (as it's a popular choice), so the best thing to do would be to call up the nearest one(s) to you and ask.

Can I ask why you don't want it delivered directly? It's a big, heavy box after all.

The firewire thing is irrelevant, that's verifiable by looking at the specs page.

My answer of the question is my understanding of the matter by reading a recent post in here by someone who said that he walked into the Apple store in Belfast and bought that self same item over the counter.

No need to double rolleyes at me.

My experience in some stores seem to stock configurations other than the ones listed online to account for customers like you (I got my macbook pro from a store with a 7200rpm drive at a time where there wasn't a standard web config with that drive). I imagine the bigger stores (oxford st certainly) will have i7 configs in stock...

This is from about 4 years ago so things might have changed...

I bought a powerbook back in 2005 and wanted to get it from a shop (just starting uni, needed it quickly). Anyway went in expecting a bit of choice and they only had 2 configurations, a basic spec model and another with all the bells and whistles.

I asked if they were able to offer me anything else, or if I could specify online and order it in to the apple store for collection and they couldn't. Apparently the apple store and the online store operate seperately. Anyway, got the one with all the extras:D woo, still going strong... ish!

They do offer the student discount in store though.

I asked about this in my local Apple Store, IIRC the answer was something along the lines of that they can take base models and do RAM and HDD upgrades in store, but for bigger customisation you'll have to use the online store. I got a spec'd-out iMac a couple of years ago, and it came to me straight from China - I don't see the point of going via an Apple Store.

We don't stock the i7 at Manchester Arndale, and I'm sure our other North West stores don't either, but can't speak 100% for them.

Thanks for all the replies.

I wanted to go in store because I'm currently on a year out from uni, so I still have my uni ID etc but I can't get on their domain to place the order online with the discount. It's also a pain for deliveries because I'm out of the house 7am to 6pm.

Just called my local store and they don't stock it, and won't order it...anyone know any stores which do stock it?

Cheers :D

Just called Regent Street, they don't stock it.

I guess no store does it judging by that.

I'll have to order of the phone I think as I can't do in store or online.
