Is this some sort of TOP SECRET job or something?!!

I thought about doing something like this as a change of career, I looked at the police but didn't fancy the 2 year probation. I've found a little bit of information online but not really anything concrete so I thought i'd give Customs a ring. It was virtually impossible to find a number on their website and eventually I had to ring the normal tax people and ask if they could put me through to HR/employment. Got through to a woman at the other end who said they didn't release information about jobs, they didn't accept CV's and the only chance of getting some more info was writing to some address in Liverpool, which she didn't have to hand.

Just a bit confused really, how are you supposed to get more information/apply for the job?!

One of the lads at work applied for a customs job, they wouldnt even tell him where he would be based!

Someone on here works for the HMRC national strike force (or something equally awesome sounding) so may be able to give you some pointers.

Isnt the offensive part of customs part of SOCA now though?

HMRC jobs are great if you can get them.

An acquaintance of mine from quite a few years back regaled me with tales of skimming off drugs and high-value goods.

They do tend to take themselves far too seriously though, I've had to deal with a few of them in the past at a professional level and it took some stern words and eventually outright threats to get them to give me the information I needed. Nothing was stopping them telling me, except the 'I'm from HMRC, and I think I work for MI5' syndrome.
