Hey all,

Took some time out to cut the garden trees today (seeing as it was hot  ), but didn't know what to do in the case of the Bamboo we have growing.

Is there a special way to prune it, or can I slice it in half?

It's almost double the height I would like it, and am considering slashing the mofo down with my samurai sword if it's ok to cut in two :D

What type is it?

If you're going to cut it, do so just above a node.
I have no idea.. was here when I moved in.

It's not spreading, so I'm assuming it's not a runner.. rather it's growing in a clump.

Just worried because it's supposedly hard to grow, and don't fancy killing it off because I went a bit cut-happy ;)

Some can grow up to 4 feet a day and yes, it does grow well in the UK but if you're not sure, cut some and see what happens to them before doing them all.

It grows fast, but getting it to grow is the hard part :p

I shall post pics of my slashing endevour :D

You can actually do a lot with bamboo stems. Have a browse online and see if you can reuse them for anything usful.

kids bow's and arrows, my dad grows it for my kids lol

I’ve got a massive bamboo plant in my garden from the previous owners, in an attempt to control it I just massacre it with a pair of strong Secateurs and a saw! It seems to keep growing so I don’t think it does it much harm. Not that I would be that bothered if it did.
